Varsity High School Head Football Coach

Job Overview:

The Varsity High School Head Football Coach is responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing student-athletes in our high school program. This role includes planning and implementing training programs, organizing competitive play, and fostering a positive and competitive team environment. The coach will work closely with players, parents, assistant coaches, and school administration to ensure the team’s success both on and off the field.

Qualifications:

• Previous high school or collegiate level coaching experience, preferred
• Strong knowledge of football techniques, strategies, and Northview High School and Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
• Certification in CPR, AED and First aid and CPR or willingness to complete upon hire.

• High School Athletic Director

Assigned Responsibilities:

Team Management:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive training and practice schedule.
• Conduct regular practices and drills to enhance player skills and team cohesion.
• Develop game strategies and make tactical decisions during games.
• Recruit, retain, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches to maintain a quality and stable program.
• Organize and manage team travel, including transportation and accommodations, if necessary.

Player Development:

• Assess individual players’ skills and provide personalized feedback and improvement plans.
• Foster an environment that promotes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
• Mentor and support players’ academic and personal growth.

Community and Parental Engagement:

• Foster positive relationships with the school community.
• Parent/Guardian meeting before the first scheduled game of the season to set expectations and overview of the season.

Fundraising

• Fundraising must be completed by the coaching staff, team, and other community members involved to raise funds for expenses throughout the season. Money must be raised in order to have expenses including scrimmages, camps, tournaments, apparel, and other expenses throughout the year. See athletic administrative assistant for process of expenses and deposits.

Health, Safety, and Compliance:

• Ensure all players adhere to safety protocols and proper conditioning practices.
• Address any injuries or health concerns promptly and in accordance with medical advice.
• Comply with all Northview Public School policies and Michigan Association High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) rules and regulations.
• Any other duties, related to this position, assigned by the Athletic Director.

Terms of Employment:

• Football Season with off-season workouts abiding by the MHSAA off season rules and regulations.
• This position follows the Northview Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement (NvEA CBA) as a Supplementary Salary Schedule B-2 position. If a qualified member of the NvEA CBA can not be secured for the position, an external candidate will follow an individual contract.
