Apply Bracknell and Wokingham Swimming Club (BWSC) in Berkshire are looking for a competitive swimming coach for our Foundation Squad. Our Foundation Squad is on the first rung of our main squad structure and the squad that invited swimmers typically move into from our teaching Academy. The squad is therefore an important transition squad for swimmers moving into competitive swimming proper and has a typical swimmer age range of 8-11 years.
Swimmers will be looking to further develop the fundamental skills such as starts, turns and underwater phases, as well as good technique in all four strokes. Swimmers in our Foundation Squad also start to get that competitive edge by competing regularly in internal galas as well as Level 3 open meets – aspiring to County level standard. Typical expected hours will be 5-6 hours/week (currently three weekday evenings and one weekend morning session).
This would be an ideal opportunity for a qualified coach or an experience swim teacher looking to move into competitive swim coaching (potential support with coaching qualification may be possible).
** Responsibilities:
*** Reporting to our Head Coach, plan, prepare and deliver a range of training sessions, appropriate to the level of swimmer and in line with the BWSC current training development programme.
* Be a positive role model, inspiring confidence and motivating swimmers through the delivery of engaging and innovative training sessions.
* Provide a committed and professional approach towards teaching/coaching, supporting the development of swimmers to achieve their individual potential and aspirations.
* Evaluate sessions and give feedback to swimmers, the Head Coach and parents on swimmers’ performance and progress. Record information and maintain records on attendance, performance and progress of swimmers and hold termly squad (swimmers & parents) group meetings and individual swimmer/parent progress meetings as required.
* Evaluate swimmers in line with the BWSC policies of assessment and communicate with the Head Coach and other squad coaches as required when progression between squads is appropriate.
* Provide appropriate explanations and demonstrations, correct faults in swimming techniques and identify ways to improve performance.
* Obtain and take note of any special needs of squad members, i.e. fitness levels, medical conditions, physical impairments, and disabilities, etc.
* Inform squad members about lifestyle issues appropriate to the sport.
* Help advise swimmers on competitions/events to attend, discussing competition preparation, performance and areas to work on.
* Attend appropriate competitions and training camps when required.
* Undertake appropriate training to continually update skills and knowledge as appropriate and attend internal training sessions and meetings as required by the Head Coach.
* Give sufficient notice to the Head Coach if unable to attend a coaching session and be flexible to provide cover as necessary in the absence of other staff.
* Develop a positive working relationship with all those involved in the Club, including swimmers and their parents, coaches/teachers, volunteers and committee members.
* Follow all policies and codes as required in the club, including the Swim England Child Protection policy as set out in Wavepower.
** Requirements:
*** Swim England Swimming Coach Qualification Certificate (~~formally~~ ASA Level 2 Coaching Award). Experienced and Level 2-qualified Swim Teacher applicants may be considered.
* Appropriate Safeguarding Qualifications
* Ideally, but not essential, have lifesaving qualification
* Ideally, but not essential, have experience of coaching age group swimmers to at least county level
* Be skills-focused with the ability to apply and share technical knowledge
