Student – Lifeguard & Instructor

Town of Tillsonburg is looking for twenty (20) responsible and outgoing Lifeguard/Instructors that will be responsible for the safety and supervision of patrons using Town pools and the planning and instruction of swimming lessons.

This is a seasonal student position with an option to enroll in OMERS defined benefit pension plan.

Division: Recreation Programs and Services

Reports To: Aquatics Supervisor

Contract: August 31, 2026 to September 7, 2027

Hourly Rate: $19.50 – $20.28/hour

Hours:

up to 20 (up to 40 in summer months)

Criminal Record Check required for this position. If over eighteen (18) years of age, a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Technical Standard and Safety Authority regulations.
  • Provide instruction and lifeguard supervision for all aquatic programs.
  • Develop lesson plans and administer required evaluations.
  • Maintain daily records for classes (attendance, swim class progress, test sheets, and progress cards).
  • Maintain pool area and recreation facilities in a clean, sanitary condition.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, problems or concerns to the Program Coordinator.
  • Attend all staff training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisors.
  • Wear the staff uniform consisting of lifeguard shirt, suit, and whistle at all times while on duty.
  • Follow all Town policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Current Lifesaving Society Learn to Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certification.
  • National Lifeguard Certification.
  • Standard First Aid + CPR

    C.

  • Advanced Provincial Trainer Status in First Aid, Lifeguard Training or Instructor Training an asset.
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills.
  • Hard working, motivated and reliable, with the ability to attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and accept and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
  • Availability to attend all orientation and training sessions.
  • Availability to work evenings and on weekends.
  • Must be returning to school in the fall.
