Middle School Special Education Teacher
Location: James L. Germany Middle School DeKalb, Texas
Reports To: Campus Principal / Director of Special Education
Job Summary
The The Technology Applications Teacher and Coach is responsible for fostering a high-quality, engaging learning environment that develops students’ digital literacy and technological skills in alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. In addition to classroom instruction, this dual role involves leading athletic programs as a coach—promoting teamwork, physical fitness, sportsmanship, and academic accountability among student-athletes.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Certification: Valid Texas Educator Certificate in Special Education (EC-12).
- Content Competency: Depending on the assignment, you may also need a content-area certification (e.g., Core Subjects EC-6 or 4-8) to meet Texas "Teacher of Record" requirements.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of Federal (IDEA) and State (TAC) special education laws; proficiency in data collection and educational technology.
Key Teaching Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Design and implement engaging, age-appropriate lessons aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Technology Applications (e.g., coding, digital citizenship, keyboarding, and multimedia production).
Technical Skill Development: Teach students foundational and advanced digital literacy skills, including how to effectively navigate software, collaborate online, and utilize productivity tools.
Project-Based Learning: Facilitate hands-on projects that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity through technology.
Digital Citizenship: Educate students on safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology, including cyberbullying awareness and digital footprint management.
Classroom & Lab Management: Manage classroom behavior and oversee the care, maintenance, and proper use of technology equipment, software, and school hardware.
Athletic Coach Responsibilities
Instruction & Skill Development: Teach student-athletes the fundamental skills, strategies, rules, and techniques of the specific sport(s) assigned.
Team Administration: Plan, organize, and lead daily practice sessions, manage game-day logistics, and oversee team travel and equipment inventory.
Character & Sportsmanship: Foster a culture of good sportsmanship, teamwork, academic accountability, and personal responsibility among athletes.
Student Safety: Ensure the safety of all participants by monitoring physical conditioning, enforcing safety protocols, and responding appropriately to injuries.

Special Education Teacher stipend $1,000.
Elementary core subject positions are eligible to earn Teacher Incentive Allotment Pay based on student performance and evaluation.
DeKalb ISD maintains a pay scale that is competitive in the region and at least $4,000 above the state minimum salary schedule.
Free Pre-K is provided for children of teacher’s working in the district.
