Girard College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Middle School Coed Soccer Coach. The Head Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the Middle School Coed Soccer Program, including the instruction, development, and mentorship of middle school student-athletes. The Head Coach will foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture that reflects the mission and values of Girard College while emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.

The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques of soccer and demonstrate the ability to develop student-athletes in a supportive educational environment.

Position Information

Position Type: Seasonal, Part-Time (Fall Season), Stipend Position

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience and according to the Girard College coaching stipend schedule.

Anticipated Start Date: August 3, 2026, for preseason practices.

Responsibilities

The Head Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, administration, and continuous improvement of the Middle School Coed Soccer Program. The Head Coach will plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate all aspects of the program while ensuring compliance with Girard College policies and the rules and regulations of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A.), the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association (M.P.A.A.), and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (P.I.A.A.).

Required Skills

• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of soccer fundamentals, rules, and game strategy.
• Develop and implement effective practice plans and game strategies appropriate for middle school student-athletes.
• Foster a team culture centered on sportsmanship, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and respect.
• Effectively communicate expectations with student-athletes, parents, assistant coaches, and school personnel.
• Supervise and mentor assistant coaches while promoting collaboration and professionalism.
• Encourage participation and skill development within the soccer program.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, administrators, and members of the Girard College community.
• Address and resolve concerns involving student-athletes, parents, or coaching staff in a professional and respectful manner.
• Sit or stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Required Duties

• Direct all aspects of the Middle School Coed Soccer Program.
• Organize and conduct preseason meetings, practices, and player evaluations.
• Develop and implement daily practice plans and game strategies.
• Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress, attendance, conduct, and athletic eligibility.
• Foster leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal responsibility among student-athletes.
• Evaluate individual and team performance while providing constructive instruction and feedback.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, equipment needs, and program operations.
• Coordinate with the athletic training staff regarding injuries, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols.
• Maintain, clean, store, and inventory all team equipment.
• Distribute uniforms and equipment before the season and collect all issued items at the conclusion of the season.
• Transport student-athletes to and from contests using Girard College vehicles as assigned. Maintain vehicles by cleaning interiors and refueling as needed in accordance with Girard College procedures.
• Assist Residential Services by picking up team meals following away contests when requested.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible to operate Girard College vehicles in accordance with Girard College policies.
• Complete any required driver authorization or vehicle safety training required by Girard College.
• Provide leadership and guidance to assistant coaches assigned to the program.
• Ensure compliance with all Girard College policies and applicable athletic association rules.
• Demonstrate appropriate conduct toward student-athletes, officials, opponents, spectators, and members of the school community.
• Promote an inclusive, respectful, and non-discriminatory environment in all team activities.
• Attend Athletic Department meetings, coaches’ meetings, and professional development opportunities as directed by the Athletic Director.
• Collaborate with the varsity soccer coaching staff to promote continuity in player development and prepare student-athletes for advancement to the high school program.
• Support the mission and values of Girard College while serving as a positive role model for student-athletes.

Hours

In-Season

The soccer season lasts approximately 8-10 weeks and may extend if postseason competition is available. Coaches are expected to be available for approximately two hours per day, Monday through Friday, for practices, with Saturday availability as needed. Coaches are required to attend all scheduled home and away contests.

Off-Season

Coaches are expected to conduct off-season workouts, clinics, or skill-development opportunities with prior approval from the Athletic Director.

Season Expectations

• Attend all preseason meetings and required Athletic Department meetings.
• Organize and conduct preseason practices and player evaluations.
• Attend all scheduled practices, contests, tournaments, and post-season competitions.
• Coordinate team functions as appropriate.
• Complete end-of-season equipment inventory and collect all uniforms and issued equipment.
• Submit an end-of-season program evaluation and recommendations to the Athletic Director.
• Maintain communication with the varsity coaching staff to support the continued development of student-athletes.
• Represent Girard College with professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm at all times.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the youth, middle school, high school, collegiate, or professional level.
• Completion of all required coaching education requirements by the time of hire.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student-athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, and staff.
• Commitment to the academic, athletic, social, and personal development of student-athletes.

Physical Requirements

This position requires standing and walking for extended periods, demonstrating soccer skills, lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and supervising practices and competitions in various weather conditions.

Required Certifications

• FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
• Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
