Role Overview:

The role is responsible for developing and executing the Online Marketplace strategy in alignment with organizational objectives, driving growth through market insights, innovation, and operational excellence. It oversees end-to-end marketplace operations, including trading activities, channel launches, and performance management across divisions, ensuring achievement of key KPIs and supporting the delivery of financial targets. The position contributes to budgeting, forecasting, and profitability planning by providing commercial insights and recommendations while building and managing a high-performing team. It requires strong cross-functional collaboration with commercial, marketing, technology, and merchandising teams to optimize product assortment, pricing, and integration. Additionally, the role manages third-party relationships, ensuring competitive commercial terms and seamless operational processes to deliver revenue growth and enhanced customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the marketplace strategy in alignment with the overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities, market trends, and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the Online Marketplace space.
  • Create and execute strategic plans for each Online Marketplace business, outlining clear objectives, milestones, and KPIs.
  • Drive the day-to-day trading operations across all Online Marketplaces.
  • Launch and manage relevant Marketplace Pure Players and Quick Commerce Aggregator channels through integrators where relevant.
  • Develop and foster a trading mindset across Marketplace Pure Players and Quick Commerce Aggregators, managing range, catalogue, and segmentation across all Divisions (EDG, H&B, Sports), ensuring go-live activity and trade calendar ownership to deliver KPIs.
  • Drive major Q-Commerce KPIs such as Out of Stock, Order Cancellation, Order SLA as per marketplace targets for the Sports Division, and Order Acceptance Time, Preparation Time, Checkout Time, Handover Time, and Store Ratings for the EDG and H&B Divisions.
  • Oversee daily marketplace operations, monitoring performance KPIs to drive revenue growth and improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the sales and margin performance of the Online Marketplace brands, monitor results, and take proactive measures to support the achievement of revenue and profitability targets.
  • Analyze sales data, market trends, and the competitive landscape to identify areas for growth and profitability improvement.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities, providing accurate revenue projections and KPI insights.
  • Build, lead, and motivate a high-performing Online Marketplace team.
  • Provide clear direction and set performance expectations.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging professional development and growth opportunities for team members.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement training programs to enhance the team's skills and expertise.
  • Engage and align with Division commercial and operational stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Transformation team to integrate GMG systems with marketplace platforms.
  • Collaborate with Marketing teams to develop effective digital marketing strategies, particularly retail media initiatives, to drive product sales.
  • Work closely with Category Management and Merchandising teams to ensure effective product assortment, pricing strategies, and inventory management.
  • Partner with Data and Catalogue teams to ensure an exhaustive product offering and high-quality product data.
  • Work closely with Technology and IT teams to optimize marketplace integrations and ensure seamless connectivity with other systems.
  • Ensure competitive market rates, timely payments, and accurate reconciliation processes.
  • Provide feedback and requirements during development, user testing, deployment planning, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, collect stakeholder feedback, and develop and deliver KPI reporting.

Skills & Experience:

  • Base Requirement: 10+ years in a similar ecommerce role, online marketplace operations, retail sales supermarkets
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a related role is preferred.
  • Understanding the principles and practices of Marketplace management
  • Strong analytical skills to track sales performance and identify improvement areas.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools like Excel, Google Sheets, or Power BI.
  • Expertise in managing online product listings and optimizing assortments.
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of strategies to drive sales and achieve revenue targets.
