Certified Medical Assistant (Orthopedics)

Locations: Merrillville, Schererville, and Crown Point, Indiana

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and patient-focused Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to support a busy orthopedic surgeon in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical practice throughout Northwest Indiana.

This role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working directly with patients, and can efficiently manage multiple responsibilities while delivering exceptional patient care. The Certified Medical Assistant will play an integral role in supporting clinic operations, maintaining patient flow, and assisting with orthopedic treatments and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and medication updates.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
  • Assist the physician with orthopedic evaluations, procedures, injections, and treatments.
  • Apply and remove braces, splints, casts, and other durable medical equipment (DME) as directed.
  • Coordinate imaging, testing, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Accurately document patient information within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Educate patients regarding treatment plans, medications, and post-procedure instructions.
  • Maintain exam room cleanliness, organization, and supply inventory.
  • Manage patient flow to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, radiology, and ancillary departments.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining professionalism and compassion.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of medical assistant experience in a physician office or specialty clinic preferred.
  • Epic EMR experience required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume orthopedic practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior orthopedic, sports medicine, surgical, or specialty clinic experience preferred.
  • Experience with casting, bracing, splinting, and durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Familiarity with orthopedic terminology, procedures, and post-operative care.

Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Clinic coverage throughout Northwest Indiana, including Merrillville, Schererville, and Crown Point.
  • Day shift schedule.
  • No weekends.
