Job Summary

Assist with coordination of Kamehameha Athletic Sports program, coaching and instructing students, and performing duties necessary to development of players and teams within Kamehameha’s athletics philosophy. This is a temporary, seasonal position for the  School Year. The position is paid a one-time stipend of $3,865.00.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of sport, including rules, regulations, skills, tactics, and techniques.
  • Translate sports knowledge to athletes, developing and evaluating athletes’ and the team’s performance and progress.
  • Teach individual and team skills to athletes.
  • Identify observable outcomes beyond winning and losing and assist athletes to reach their full potential.
  • Display patience and ability to develop athletes, addressing individual needs without compromising team goals.
  • Organize and supervise well-planned, safe, and efficient practices and games, utilizing coaching staff effectively.
  • Prepare the team for games, matches, and meets.
  • Act ethically and professionally, presenting yourself as a positive role model for athletes.
  • Respect athletes, motivate and inspire players, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Develop the team concept within KS’s values-driven framework, promoting sportsmanship and respect for rules and officials.
  • Balance skill development with team concepts, treating each player as part of a team.
  • Provide an enjoyable environment and experience for athletes.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities: resolve disciplinary issues, ensure medical and academic eligibility, maintain student-athlete records, timesheets, and meet human-resources requirements.
  • Act responsibly with equipment, uniforms, and assistance personnel, plan and budget for the sport, and inventory equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, coaches, and the community; report results to school and media in a timely manner; promote the program within local and state communities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year coaching experience.
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging students, coaches, staff, physicians, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously.
  • Prior coaching experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school or collegiate athletic participation.
  • High school or collegiate coaching experience.
  • Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.

Physical Requirements

Physical activity such as walking, standing, dancing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying is required.

Working Conditions

This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands. Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work in non-standard workplaces. Monday through Friday normal business hours are typical, but evening and weekend hours are often required.
