About Gym Jitsu
Gym Jitsu is a Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA academy in Allen, TX dedicated to raising human dignity through martial arts. We are building one of the premier youth martial arts programs in the area, with a focus on technical excellence, character development, and a welcoming community for students and families.
About the Role
We are looking for a coach with a strong wrestling background to support our weekly youth No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu class. This is a team-teaching role: you will run the warm-ups, drilling, and conditioning, and our Head Coach will teach the Jiu-Jitsu techniques and positions. From time to time, the Head Coach will invite you to teach wrestling-specific techniques tailored for No-Gi — takedowns, takedown defense, scrambles, and top control. It is a part-time position beginning with one class per week on Thursday evenings, with room to grow as the program expands. This is a great fit for a wrestler who loves working with kids and wants a meaningful, recurring role on a strong coaching team.
What You’ll Do
- Run engaging, age-appropriate warm-ups, drills, and conditioning for the youth No-Gi class each Thursday at 5:15 PM.
- Lead movement, takedown, and wrestling-based drilling that builds a strong athletic and grappling foundation for our students.
- Support the Head Coach during class, assisting students individually while the Head Coach teaches Jiu-Jitsu techniques and positions.
- Teach wrestling-specific techniques for No-Gi — takedowns, takedown defense, scrambles, and top control — when invited to do so by the Head Coach.
- Help manage class safety, including partner pairings and live-training intensity appropriate for youth, in coordination with the Head Coach.
- Reinforce the academy’s mat rules, etiquette, and values in every class.
- Provide clear, encouraging feedback that helps each student improve and build confidence.
- Help keep the mat and training area clean and sanitized before and after class.
- Communicate professionally and warmly with students and parents.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong, verifiable wrestling background — preferred folkstyle (high school, college, club, or competitive experience).
- Ability to lead high-energy, well-organized warm-ups, drills, and conditioning for youth.
- Comfortable working as part of a coaching team, taking direction from the Head Coach.
- Experience teaching or coaching, ideally with children and youth.
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with kids and the patience to match.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to consistently commit to the Thursday 5:15 PM class.
- Strong communication skills with students and parents.
- Must pass a background check (required for all staff working with minors).
- CPR/First Aid certification a plus, or willingness to obtain.
Bonus Points
- Collegiate, high-level high school, or open/club wrestling accomplishments.
- Wrestling coaching certification or prior wrestling coaching experience.
- Some exposure to No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu or grappling, and familiarity with IBJJF rules.
- Prior experience in a youth sports or martial arts program.
- Availability to take on additional classes as the program grows.
Compensation
- Competitive hourly pay (W-2), commensurate with experience.
- Paid per class taught, with opportunity for additional paid hours as the program expands.
- A supportive, mission-driven environment and a chance to grow with a building program.
