At Alpha, academic content is delivered through AI-powered applications. No lectures. No textbooks. Half of your day is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and the exchange of constructive feedback. The remaining half involves meeting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and ensuring each one reaches 100% of their weekly app targets. You will not be reading from a script — workshops provide a framework, but top performers in this role modify them and create new content when they identify a need.
Success in a quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report that they love you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the job is not being done. Your first year is focused on mastering the system; as you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards, you become eligible for Lead Guide, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct work with students.
If you prefer traditional classroom teaching, need a ready-made curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this role is not a fit. What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts on topics including public speaking, focus, feedback, and other transferable skills, modifying the framework and creating new sessions when you identify missing elements
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that ensure every student reaches 100% of their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your personal connection with each child to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based assessment) for each life skill, and providing coaching to students who do not pass until they achieve mastery
- Adjusting your approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners who require high energy and physical activity to 8th graders who respond to direct communication and accountability
- Serving as the adult who maintains high expectations and the adult students trust; warmth creates the foundation for challenge, and challenge demonstrates your confidence in their capability
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering whiteboard instruction; academic teaching is embedded in the apps, not your responsibility
- Building curriculum from the ground up; you activate an established playbook through energy and narrative
- Monitoring students passively while they use computers; motivation in this context is active, individualized, and persistent
- Reducing a weekly target to make it easier for a student to reach; when a student falls behind, the solution is supporting the student, not adjusting the goal
- Evaluating homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent engagement, and the other tasks do not exist in this model
Youth Development Specialist Key Responsibilities
Ensure every student in your K-8 cohort reaches their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and completes the year reporting that they loved you.
Basic Requirements
- Available to work in-person at an Alpha campus located in Denver, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT; or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance provided)
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (including classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
- A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result
- Comfort with AI managing instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching
- Daily usage of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Legal authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectives
- History of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), demonstrating that holding others to rigorous standards is consistent behavior, not adopted posture
- Narrative and presentation skills sufficient to command the attention of a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without resorting to volume
- Proven ability to convert disengaged or reluctant students into engaged contributors

Working with us
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $50 USD/hour, which equates to $100,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
