Job Description: Under the supervision of the Head Coach/Athletics Director/Deputy Athletics Director, the Assistant Coach of the women’s swimming program will be an 8-month appointment, working 40 hours bi-weekly, assisting the head coach in all phases of the swimming program including, but not limited to, recruiting qualified student-athletes, organization and design of practice and competition, on-deck coaching, scheduling, team management, travel arrangements, supervision of academic progress, alumni development, fundraising and any other duties as assigned, and compliance with College, Conference, and NCAA rules.
Essential Responsibilities/Principal Activities
- Assist the Head Swim Coach in instructing athletes on the sport’s rules, regulations, and techniques.
- Organize and direct individual and group practices as directed by the Head Swim Coach.
- Assesses swimmer’s skills, monitor athletes during competition and practice and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of athletes.
- Maintain regular and timely attendance
- Know and follow all NCAA and Conference Rules & Regulations
- Ensure all practice changes, pool closures, upcoming activities, and competitions are communicated to athletes and their guardians before each workout.
- Provide first aid and CPR as required.
- Familiar with the facility’s Emergency Action Plans and respond appropriately to all emergencies.
- Foster a welcoming environment for all student-athletes to retain swimmers.
- Ensure all required training and certification are completed per USA Swimming, USMS, and governing body requirements.
- Attend awards banquets and governing meetings.
- Share in recruiting efforts for potential student-athletes including, but not limited to, correspondence, talent assessment, and scheduling on-campus visits.
- Assists with film/video analysis in preparation for upcoming opponents and for recruiting evaluation of talent. Provides analysis for team/player development and records and organizes training-related data.
- Assist with fostering an environment of excellence in team/personal conduct, academic success, health and well-being, and an overall positive student-athlete experience.

- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, City University of New York (CUNY), CUNY Athletic Conference, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division III) policies and procedures.
- This position will require night and weekend work, and potential overnight travel.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- 1-3 years of club, high school, or college swim coaching experience
- Advanced knowledge of skills and strategies and specialized knowledge of sports required.
- USA Swimming Coaching Certification or USMS Coaching Certification
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills
- A valid drivers’ license and ability to drive a vehicle is required.
