Waterfront Head Lifeguard Jobs in Newton, USA at The University of West Alabama
Concord Recreation is seeking a Head Lifeguard for its Waterfront program. They will manage lifeguard operations, supervise lifeguards on duty, watch waterfront activities, prevent and address dangerous situations, and respond to people in need of aid. Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures.
Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week, schedule varies with shifts ranging from 9:00 am–7:30 pm and set by Aquatics Manager, from May 23–August 16, 2026. Pay range: $22.00 – $26.53 /hour; starting pay based on qualifications.

Appointment of the final candidate will be contingent upon the results of pre-placement conditions including credit, CORI and SORI checks. Costs of these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Waterfront Director and Aquatics Supervisor, manages lifeguard operations, supervises lifeguards on duty, watches pool/waterfront activities, prevents and addresses dangerous situations, and responds to people in need of aid. Responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under the direction and control of the position. Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures.
Incumbent is called upon to handle a significant amount of details, each varying from the other in substance and content, requiring incumbent to approach workload with flexibility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.
- Work with the Waterfront Director overseeing the activities of lifeguards, instructors, coaches, and other program providers at pond site to ensure safety protocols are being followed; address observed issues promptly; advise management of problems, violations, and areas for improvement related to policies and procedures. Supervise lifeguards, ensuring all work is performed in compliance with established policies and procedures and applicable safety regulations;
including monitoring bathrooms, debris and eating areas.
- Maintain watchfulness over the pond to prevent dangerous situations.
- Monitor and assist swimmers and enforce regulations.
- Provide basic first aid. Perform rescue if appropriate, call for help, provide emergency care, interview witnesses, and file reports.
- Assist in the daily opening of the waterfront, test pools for proper chlorine and pH levels, and set up lanes.
- Assist in the daily closing of the waterfront. Check facilities for vacancy at the end of the day; pick up any possessions left behind.
