Start Bright Academy is seeking passionate, energetic, and community-driven individuals who love working with youth and believe in the power of hands-on learning, creativity, athletics, and mentorship. Our after-school program provides engaging, project-based STEAM education, sports enrichment, and arts programming that inspires creativity, leadership, teamwork, academic growth, and self-confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

We are currently seeking volunteers, mentors, interns, coaches, artists, creatives, and community leaders who are passionate about mentoring young children and sharing their unique skills, talents, and experiences with the next generation.

About the Opportunity

Volunteers may assist with:

  • Hands-on STEAM activities and project-based learning
  • Sports, fitness, recreation, and team-building activities
  • Visual arts, music, dance, theater, and creative enrichment
  • Mentorship and character development
  • Homework assistance and academic support
  • Field trips, group projects, and leadership activities
  • Creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment for students

Internship & College Credit Opportunities

This is an unpaid (but negotiable based on experience) volunteer opportunity designed to provide valuable hands-on experience in education, youth development, nonprofit leadership, sports enrichment, and arts programming.

College credit and internship experience may be available through an approved agreement with the candidate’s college, university, or educational institution. Start Bright Academy is happy to collaborate with academic advisors and internship coordinators to support eligible students in completing internship hours, practicum requirements, service-learning, or observation experiences.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday
  • Afternoon shifts: 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM
  • Full-day opportunities available: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Flexible volunteer schedules available
  • 20–40 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should:

  • Have a love for teaching, mentoring, and working with youth
  • Have a passion for supporting character development
  • Be willing to provide mentorship and leadership
  • Have knowledge, skills, or interest in STEAM, sports, arts, or enrichment programming
  • Have a talent for making learning engaging, creative, and fun
  • Be knowledgeable in project-based learning
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Demonstrate professionalism, patience, and positive energy

Preferred Experience

  • Teaching, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, arts instruction, or youth program experience preferred
  • Teaching certification is a plus, but not required
