Sports Facility Supervisor (Specified Purpose Wholetime)
The Sports Facility Supervisor is a leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operational management and supervision of TU Dublin’s sports facilities across multiple campuses including Grangegorman, Broombridge, Tallaght, and Blanchardstown. As the University continues to invest significantly in both outdoor and indoor sports infrastructure, this role is vital in ensuring these facilities are maintained to the highest standards and operate seamlessly to support a diverse range of users.
This position requires a proactive and experienced professional who can lead and develop a committed sports facility team to deliver an exceptional service experience to students, staff, and external community users. The Supervisor will play a central role in fostering a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring that all sports amenities from pitches and gyms to studios and sports halls are effectively managed, maintained and fully operational throughout extended opening hours, seven days a week.
The role is integral to supporting TU Dublin’s strategic goals of promoting health, fitness, wellness, and physical activity across the University community, while also driving increased participation and engagement through high-quality programming and facility access. Balancing the diverse needs of internal stakeholders and external partners, the Sports Facility Supervisor will ensure the optimal utilisation of facilities, enhancing the overall user experience and strengthening TU Dublin’s reputation as a leading provider of sports facility service providers.
The Supervisor will contribute to continuous service improvement, operational excellence, programming and the professional development of their team, aligning day-to-day facility management with the broader vision and objectives of TU Dublin Sport.
This is a highly visible and impactful role that supports the University’s commitment to wellbeing, inclusivity, and community engagement through sport.
The Sports Facility Supervisor will work closely with the sports facility and development team to provide a professional service for all stakeholders.
Overarching Responsibilities
The tasks and duties associated with the posts include:
- Supervision of the Sports facilities across each campus ensuring all facilities operate in a safe environment and that they are sufficiently resourced to deliver a quality service and positive experience for all users.
- Lead, support and supervise sport and fitness facility staff including Sport and Fitness Assistants, hourly paid, and internships.
- Assist with facility staff scheduling, ensuring the efficient and effective planning of activities and events.
- Oversee day-to-day operational and programming requirements, proactively resolving issues and implementing solutions to maintain service delivery, including responding to staff absences, schedule changes and other operational challenges.
- Assist in the implementation and administration of the Sport Facilities Management Systems, ensuring compliance with all facility codes of conduct, policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Develop, adapt and deliver sports, fitness, and physical activity programmes, including group fitness classes, sports camps, Ireland Active initiatives, and internal projects, to support participation, engagement, and wellbeing.
- Support, maintain and develop facilities to strengthen the provisions for TU Dublin Sport clubs across the facilities and other training locations, ensuring that the facilities are operational daily with regard to health and safety, hygiene and maintenance.
- Liaise with all stakeholders and partners to enhance the sports facilities, working closely with the Student Life team to support the requirements of the overall service.
- Represent TU Dublin Sport professionally, providing a high standard of customer service through handling complaints, member queries, and contributing to sport development.
- Carry out administrative duties related to finance including Agresso administration, reception duties, membership database, promotions and booking administration for all sports facilities.
- Supervise and monitor the service delivery including maintenance and cleaning across all facilities, ensuring continuous improvement is visible and high-quality facility standards are being achieved.
- Assist with the annual National Quality Standard audit applications, including implementing change management programmes, where appropriate, to introduce operational and programme efficiencies to achieve best practice industry standards.
- Work with the Sport Facility Management team to maintain facilities to the highest standards, recommending upgrades and investment where necessary.
- Identify and report any faulty equipment, maintenance issues or facility concerns to the relevant area, ensuring timely resolution and supporting safe and effective facility operations.
- Assist with the recruitment of sport facility hourly paid staff.
- Support the development of the team by fostering a positive and motivating environment, providing effective performance feedback, supporting staff onboarding, and facilitating continuous training and development.
- Monitor, compose and review reports/data for continuous review of the sports facilities.
- Update systems and records as per TU Dublin Sport protocol and procedures.
- Set up and prepare facilities for a variety of sports and activities, including the safe handling, movement, and positioning of sports equipment and resources to support effective programme delivery.
- Open and close the facility as required, maintaining flexibility in working hours to meet the operational needs of the service and ensure effective daily facility operations.
- Proactively contribute to the Senior Management team, helping to review and plan future developments and programmes that deliver on the strategic and operational goals.
- Promote and assist with communication campaigns with on-campus promotions and digital media channels to help boost the promotion of TU Dublin Student Life.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Reps Recognised Fitness Qualification minimum EFQ Level 4 or above.
- 5 years Sport Facility industry experience.
- 2-years experience in Sports leadership or management.
Desirable Criteria
- 3rd level qualification in Sports management course.
- Experience supervising sport staff, target setting and performance management.
- Two or more REPs accredited qualifications in Spin, Boxercise, Les Mills, Pilates, Yoga.
Knowledge
- An understanding of the current sports facilities across TU Dublin.
- Excellent understanding of sport facilities operations.
- Excellent understanding of sport and fitness trends.
- Excellent knowledge of sport facility operations and programmes.
- Good knowledge of sport and fitness governance.

Tenure
- This post is offered on a specified purpose basis.
Location
- The post will be based at one of the TU Dublin campuses: Aungier Street, Bolton Street, Grangegorman, Blanchardstown or Tallaght.
- Regular attendance at other sites will be required.
Salary
- The successful candidate will be appointed at Point (01) of the Assistant Staff Officer (Grade IV) Salary Scale, i.e. €39,490 gross per annum, unless the arrangements set out in Circular Letter 08/2019 apply.
- This role is aligned to Grade IV for pay purposes only.
Hours of Work
- A 35-hour working week is in operation.
- This can be reviewed by collective agreement with the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
- Having regard to the nature of the work, attendance outside these hours may be required from time to time.
Probation
- The terms of the University’s Staff Induction Policy and Probation Procedure may apply.
Annual Leave
- Annual leave and public holidays shall be granted in accordance with the Holidays (Employees) Act 1973 and the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.
- The annual leave entitlement for this post is 23 days per annum, inclusive of any University compulsory closure days.
Retirement
- This is a pensionable post.
Sick Leave
- The terms of the TU Dublin Sick Leave Policy will apply.
- Sick leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised from time to time by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
