Join our dynamic team as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor, where you will inspire and empower individuals through the transformative power of equine-assisted activities. Instructors without CTRI must shadow a certified instructor on a volunteer basis. Once certified, this paid position offers an exciting opportunity to combine your passion for riding, teaching, and helping others to achieve personal growth and improved well-being. As a key member of our therapeutic programs, you will design, deliver, and report on engaging riding sessions tailored to each participant’s needs, fostering confidence, independence, and joy. Duties

  • Develop customized riding lesson plans that align with each participant’s therapeutic goals and abilities
  • Lead safe and effective riding sessions, ensuring proper horse handling and rider safety at all times
  • Use your expertise in sports coaching, physical education, or martial arts to incorporate movement techniques that enhance rider engagement and skill development
  • Manage behavior and motivate participants through positive reinforcement, fostering a supportive atmosphere
  • Collaborate with program staff, including the lead instructor, to monitor progress and adapt activities accordingly
  • Maintain detailed records of sessions, rider progress, and safety checks to ensure compliance with all standards
  • Oversee groups of volunteers as they support classes

Experience

  • Prior experience working with children or individuals with special needs in a teaching or coaching capacity
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques to support diverse learning styles and emotional needs
  • Certification or training in horseback riding instruction is preferred but not required; enthusiasm for learning is essential
  • Strong communication skills combined with the ability to motivate and inspire participants of all backgrounds.

  • While in training, instructors are not paid. Once able to instruct alone, entry level instructors are paid $18/hour. Higher level certified instructors are paid $25/hour. Some training and certification reimbursement may be possible.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
