Hours vary by season; evenings and weekends required, up to 29 hours per week

St. Andrew’s Parish Parks & Playground Commission is seeking enthusiastic, safety-focused, and team-oriented individuals to join our Swim Team coaching staff. We are hiring for multiple coaching levels ranging from entry-level Junior Swim Team Coach positions through experienced Lead Swim Team Coach roles.

These positions support swimmer development, promote sportsmanship and teamwork, and help create a positive and inclusive environment for youth athletes of varying ages and skill levels.

Available Positions


Junior Swim Team Coach

Entry-level coaching role focused on assisting practices, supervising swimmers, reinforcing foundational skills, and supporting senior coaching staff. Ideal for candidates beginning their coaching journey.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Prior competitive swimming experience or swim instruction required


Swim Team Coach I

Supports practice execution and swimmer development while assisting with team operations and athlete engagement.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior competitive swimming experience or swim instruction required
  • Previous coaching experience preferred


Swim Team Coach II

Independently leads practices and supports swimmer development across skill levels while contributing to team culture and performance.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior competitive swimming experience or swim instruction required
  • 1-3 years of coaching experience preferred


Lead Swim Team Coach

Provides leadership and direction for swim team programming, including staff supervision, training plans, swimmer development, and meet operations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; related college coursework preferred
  • 3-5 years of competitive swimming and/or coaching experience
  • Prior leadership or lead coaching experience strongly preferred


General Responsibilities

Depending on position level, responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with or leading swim practices
  • Teaching stroke technique, starts, turns, and race strategy
  • Monitoring swimmer safety and enforcing pool rules
  • Supporting swim meet operations and swimmer readiness
  • Tracking attendance and swimmer progress
  • Communicating effectively with swimmers, parents/guardians, and staff
  • Promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive youth development
  • Assisting with equipment setup, breakdown, and facility operations
  • Supporting program growth, retention, and team culture

  • Dependability, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Knowledge of competitive swim techniques appropriate to position level


Certifications

Certifications may vary by position level and may include:

  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Lifeguard Certification (preferred)
  • Darkness2Light – Stewards of Children Certification
  • SafeSport Training
  • USA Swimming Coach Certification
  • CCAA, Starfish Stroke School, or equivalent coaching certifications


Physical Requirements

Positions require the ability to:

  • Stand, walk, and move for extended periods
  • Demonstrate swim techniques and enter the water as needed
  • Lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Work in indoor and outdoor pool environments with exposure to heat, humidity, and pool chemicals
