Seasonal Summer Learn-to-Swim Instructor Positions for College Athletes

Position: Seasonal Learn-to-Swim InstructorPay Rate: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience and qualificationsProgram Dates: July 6 – August 21Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:45 AM- 2:15 PM session One, 3:45 PM – 8:15 PM session TwoMonday–Friday availability is preferred, but we will work with individual schedules when possible.
Position Overview
This is a seasonal summer position designed for experienced swimmers, college athletes, and aquatics professionals interested in teaching and mentoring young swimmers. Learn-to-Swim Instructors are responsible for leading swim lessons for children and adolescents of varying skill levels while promoting water safety, confidence, and skill development.
Responsibilities
- Lead and instruct learn-to-swim classes for children and adolescents
- Teach water safety, swimming fundamentals, and stroke development
- Evaluate swimmer abilities and place students in appropriate skill groups
- Monitor and document swimmer progress throughout the session
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of individual swimmers
- Ensure a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment
- Communicate professionally with parents and program staff
- Supervise and provide guidance to Swim Program Assistants
- Serve as a positive role model and ambassador for the program
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former college athlete
- Competitive swimming experience strongly preferred
- Previous experience teaching swim lessons, coaching, lifeguarding, or working with youth programs
- Strong understanding of swim technique, stroke mechanics, and skill progression
- Experience working with children of various ages and abilities
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Reliable, professional, patient, and enthusiastic
Preferred Certifications
The following certifications are highly desirable:
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
- Lifeguarding Certification
- CPR/AED Certification for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid Certification
- Swim coaching experience or other aquatics certifications
