For over 25 years, POW! Gym Chicago has been a trusted part of the West Loop community. We specialize in youth sports performance training, adult strength programs, and highly active, structured summer camps for kids in 1st through 8th grade.
Unlike large park district programs, our camps are intentionally smaller, allowing for more personalized attention, stronger relationships, better structure, and a higher-quality experience for every child.
Position Overview
We are seeking an athletic, energetic, organized, and dependable Summer Camp Coach to help lead daily camp activities, including sports conditioning, fitness sessions, games, and team-building experiences.
This role is ideal for a teacher, coach, education major, or future educator who enjoys working with children, leading groups, and creating a positive environment where kids feel safe, challenged, and included.
Coaches also assist with daily camp operations, including attendance, parent check-in/check-out, answering phones, and maintaining clean, organized camp spaces.
Camp Environment
Our facility is located in the West Loop, and we regularly use nearby parks for outdoor activities. Coaches must be comfortable organizing groups of children and safely walking them to and from neighborhood parks.
Camp days include:
- Structured fitness and movement sessions
- Sports and active games
- Team challenges
- Outdoor park activities
- Creative downtime activities such as art, cards, and group games
Camp Season: June 8 – August 21
No Camp: June 29 – July 4
Hours of : 8am to 4:30 pm (not everyone works
(Not all staff start and end at the same time.)
Hours Available: 30–40 hours per week
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain consistent attendance throughout the summer season
- Work directly with ownership and leadership staff to execute daily camp operations
- Lead structured workouts, games, and movement activities
- Supervise campers during transitions and activities
- Safely escort groups to nearby parks and outdoor spaces
- Model professionalism and leadership for junior staff
- Use positive behavior management and redirection strategies
- Communicate parent concerns professionally and promptly
- Assist with check-in/check-out, rosters, shirts, and daily logistics
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions
- Support inclusion staff to create a positive experience for all campers
- Help execute special events, field trips, and themed camp days
- Maintain safety standards at all times
- Provide feedback at season’s end for future improvement

Qualifications
- Experience supervising children in schools, camps, recreation, or youth programs
- Strong classroom/group management skills
- Ability to lead kids in both fitness activities and games
- Strong communication with parents, staff, and campers
- Organized and calm under pressure
- Comfortable working outdoors and staying active throughout the day
Preferred Background
- College Degree (Education, Exercise Science, Recreation, or related field)
- Associate’s Degree + 2 yrs in classroom /coaching
- Teaching certification or educator-in-training
- Coaching, PE, fitness, or youth sports experience
- Small-group, relationship-based environment

Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
