Strength Coach & Fitness Instructor
Location: Newton Country Day School, Newton, MA
Schedule: By the school sports seasons (late August through mid-May), weekday afternoons from ~3:00-6:00, with flexibility
Stipend: $4,000-7,000 per season (fall-winter-spring)
Position Summary
Newton Country Day School seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, and mission-aligned Strength Coach & Fitness Instructor to support the physical development of our student-athletes through strength and conditioning programming and after-school fitness instruction. This seasonal position will lead team-based training sessions designed to improve athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and promote lifelong fitness habits while fostering a positive and encouraging training environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead age-appropriate, sport-specific strength and conditioning sessions for varsity athletic teams.
- Teach and supervise after-school fitness classes for students.
- Develop safe, progressive training programs that emphasize proper technique, movement quality, injury prevention, and athletic development.
- Modify exercises to accommodate varying experience levels and injuries, in collaboration with the athletic trainer when appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and motivating training environment.
- Communicate effectively with coaches regarding team needs and training priorities.
- Uphold and model the mission of Sacred Heart education and the Newton Country Day School Athletics philosophy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, or a related field.
- Experience coaching strength and conditioning for middle school and/or high school athletes.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), or comparable certification preferred.
