The salary range for this position is at $45,000 – $59,000. We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
Job Summary:
The Sports Director is responsible to develop, implement and coordinate day-to-day processes and programs for sports. The individual supervises team members, volunteers and participants in sports programs. Manage programming for quality and safety for assigned programs/locations. Responsible for building positive relationships with participants, families, staff, volunteers and community partners.
Essential Functions:
- Manage day to day operations for safe, high-quality Sports programs focusing on youth development and athletics within the assigned locations.
- Develop vision for the program ensuring decisions are made through a sports-focused lens.
- Serve as the key contact for staff, parents, volunteers, and community partners for implementation of daily programs. Maintains strong working relationships and coordinate collaborative programming using program and Y funds.
- Create and foster a safe and respectful culture within a diverse community of youth, families, volunteers, and partner agencies.
- Oversee staff supervision including scheduling, recruiting, retention, staff coaching and performance management, and staff development.
- Hire and maintain a staff structure that supports high quality and diverse teams.
- Meet and maintain all evaluation data outcome requirements for contracts for assigned programs.
- Manage budget and expenses to meet programming outcomes and goals.
Organizational Relationship:
This position reports to the Executive Director of Sports and represents the Y to programs serviced. Takes work direction from the Executive Director of Sports or their representative to meet programing requirements. The individual supervises sports staff and provides indirect supervision to partner staff and volunteers. The individual regularly interacts with youth and families from diverse backgrounds. This position has a critically important partnership relationship with the branch administration and other team members associated with their program.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience developing, implementing, scheduling and evaluating varied sports recreation programs.
- Minimum of one (1) year supervisor experience.
- Ability to manage expenses to a budget.
- Ability to develop positive relationships and collaborate with a variety of partnerships.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong problem solving and, analytical ability
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently as needed.
- Ability to maintain high levels of interaction in a fast-paced, athletic- focused environment.
- Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR, First Aid, Oxygen and AED Certifications to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Secondary Education in Recreation, Management, Physical Education or related field
- Bi/multilingual
Work Conditions:
- Ability to travel locally between locations to attend meetings, training, and events.
- Ability to move throughout multiple locations regularly throughout the day.
- Ability to work varying hours, including days, evenings and weekends.
- Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently.
- May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment.
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.
