About the Role
Tomah Ace Hardware is looking for a motivated, customer-focused Sporting Goods Sales Associate to join our team. If you enjoy the outdoors, hunting, shooting sports, or fishing and take pride in helping customers find the right products, we’d love to meet you.
In this role, you’ll assist customers with firearms, suppressors, ammunition, optics, and outdoor sporting goods while providing exceptional customer service in a safe, professional environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with the selection of firearms, suppressors, ammunition, optics, and hunting accessories.
- Process firearm and suppressor sales while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Complete required paperwork and background check procedures accurately.
- Sell and issue Wisconsin DNR hunting and fishing licenses.
- Recommend complementary products and accessories through effective upselling (optics, ammunition, cleaning supplies, safes, targets, hearing protection, etc.).
- Receive, stock, and merchandise sporting goods inventory.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and cycle counts.
- Maintain attractive product displays and a clean, organized department.
- Answer customer questions and provide knowledgeable product recommendations.
- Assist with unloading freight and stocking merchandise.
- Follow all company safety procedures and store policies.
- Support other departments as needed.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system while accurately processing cash, credit card, and other payment transactions.
- Balance cash drawer and follow established cash handling procedures.
- Maintain accuracy when processing sales, returns, exchanges, and customer special orders.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow regulations and procedures.
- Comfortable learning about firearms, suppressors, ammunition, and outdoor equipment.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to accurately calculate totals, discounts, and make change.
- Experience handling cash and processing transactions accurately using a point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Retail or sporting goods experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to legally sell firearms in accordance with all applicable laws.
