Overview
Specialist (Sporting Goods + Gun Counter Compliance) Jobs in Bountiful, UT at C-A-L Ranch Stores
CAL Ranch Store 28 (Bountiful, UT) is hiring a Specialist who can run high-precision store operations and support Sporting Goods compliance standards. This is a detail-heavy role for someone who likes clean processes, accurate pricing, and doing things the right way—every time.
You’ll own the daily rhythm of fulfillment, price/sign management, and inventory controls, and you’ll also be a trusted partner to management on Country Supplier and ATF-aligned firearms compliance routines (training, safe handling standards, documentation discipline, and audit readiness).
What You’ll Do (Core Responsibilities)
Store Operations (Specialist)
- Pull, validate, prepare, and audit orders for curbside pickup, in-store pickup, and shipping.
- Own price management: price changes, ad/sign printing, special event signage, and sale-sign audits.
- Manage and resolve negative on-hands, inventory discrepancies, and department “outs” lists.
- Keep frequent, consistent communication with store management on inventory discrepancies (no surprises).
- Use POS to complete phone orders, in-store orders, and returns.
- Help in other departments when needed.
- Maintain store standards (organization/cleaning tasks as assigned).
Sporting Goods Compliance Support (Country Supplier / ATF-aligned)
You are not expected to be the FFL holder—but you are expected to operate with a compliance-first mindset and help the team stay audit-ready.
- Follow and reinforce all federal, state, and local firearms laws and company policies.
- Support employee training and daily standards for safe firearm handling and security.
- Enforce counter standards when firearms are shown to customers, including:
- Treat every firearm as loaded; muzzle discipline; finger off the trigger; know your target and what’s beyond it.
- Open the action and visually/physically clear before showing and again before returning to display.
- One firearm at a time (two only when finalizing a decision).
- Trigger-lock and display requirements: only remove one trigger lock at a time.
- Maintain control: the employee who hands off the firearm stays with the customer the entire time.
- No ammunition on the counter when a firearm is being viewed without a trigger lock.
- Maintain strong documentation discipline and support management in recordkeeping and audit readiness (e.g., monthly firearm audit routines, inspection-readiness behaviors).
- Escalate any compliance concern immediately through the chain of command.
Must-Haves
- Strong attention to detail and comfort with repetitive, accuracy-critical work.
- Calm, professional communication—especially when enforcing policy.
- Ability to learn and follow strict procedures (no shortcuts).
- Basic computer skills (touchscreen devices, email) and working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and help across departments.
Preferred
- Retail operations experience (pricing, signage, inventory counts, fulfillment/pickup).
- Experience in Sporting Goods, firearms retail, or other compliance-heavy environments.
- Comfort coaching peers on standards and holding the line respectfully.
Physical / Work Environment
- Frequent standing/walking/bending; lifting and carrying may be required.
- Work occurs in a retail environment with exposure to dust, noise, heat/cold, and seasonal conditions.
Training (Important)
Comprehensive training is provided. You do not need to be a firearms expert on day one. What matters most is a compliance-first mindset, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and follow the process.
