Position Overview
Layton Sports Cards is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Development Intern to join our Information Technology team for a temporary internship opportunity. This role offers hands-on experience working alongside an experienced software developer to build and support real-world applications designed to improve and streamline retail operations. The ideal candidate is passionate about software development, eager to learn modern technologies, and excited to contribute to meaningful projects in a fast-paced business environment .
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in building and maintaining full-stack application features using Node.js
- Design, build, and consume GraphQL APIs to power dynamic front-end experiences
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot queries in a PostgreSQL database environment
- Collaborate with developers and stakeholders on software design and architecture decisions
- Participate in code reviews, daily standups, and sprint planning discussions
- Support debugging, testing, documentation, and deployment processes
- Help identify opportunities to improve internal systems, workflows, and automation
- Follow development best practices, coding standards, and version control procedures
- Develop intuitive dashboards, reporting tools, and data visualization features to support business decision-making
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology , or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Working knowledge of software architecture and technology stack selection
- Experience through coursework, projects, or internships using React and Node.js
- Familiarity with GraphQL , including querying APIs and/or schema development
- Basic understanding of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL
- Experience using Git in collaborative development environments
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated with a strong willingness to learn and adapt
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of REST vs. GraphQL architecture and trade-offs
- Exposure to testing frameworks such as Jest , Vitest , or similar tools
- Interest in or knowledge of Trading Card Games (TCG) and TCG marketplaces
- Prior experience building dashboards, reporting tools, or internal business software
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
