Green Fields School (GFS) is a PreK-12 campus in Tucson, Arizona, dedicated to the academic, personal, and physical development of every student. We believe that athletics play a vital role in building character, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong love of movement. We are growing our K–12 athletics program and are seeking a passionate, experienced coach to lead and inspire our student-athletes.
Position Summary
Green Fields School is seeking a full-time K-12 Athletics Coach to oversee and develop our campus sports program. This role is responsible for coaching multiple sports across grade levels, including but not limited to soccer, basketball, and other athletic offerings, while cultivating a positive, inclusive, and competitive sports culture on campus.
The ideal candidate is an energetic, student-centered coach who can work with athletes of varying ages and skill levels. They bring strong organizational skills, a genuine passion for youth development through sport, and the ability to build a program that the whole school community is proud of.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead athletic practices and competitions across multiple sports for K-12 students
- Develop age-appropriate training programs that build fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Manage game and practice schedules, coordinate with opposing schools, and oversee logistics for away events
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes during practices, games, and travel
- Monitor and support student-athlete academic eligibility and overall well-being
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school leadership regarding athletic programming and student progress
- Maintain and inventory athletic equipment and facilities; coordinate repair or replacement as needed
- Recruit student participation and build enthusiasm for the athletics program across the campus
- Uphold and model the school’s values of integrity, respect, and community in all athletic settings
- Participate in school events, assemblies, and campus activities as a visible member of the GFS community
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated experience coaching youth or scholastic athletes, preferably at the K-12 level
- Strong knowledge of multiple sports, with the ability to coach across disciplines
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage schedules, logistics, and multiple teams simultaneously
- Positive, patient, and motivational coaching style that supports athletes at all skill levels
Preferred:
- Coaching experience in soccer and/or basketball at the scholastic or club level
- Experience building or growing an athletics program at a school or community organization
- Knowledge of Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) rules and regulations
- Background in sports performance, strength and conditioning, or athletic training
- Experience working in an independent, charter, or small-campus school environment
