Job Overview
Total Orthopaedic Care is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Revenue Cycle Specialist to support daily revenue cycle operations for our orthopedic and sports medicine practice. This role is responsible for claims follow-up, working rejections and denials, resolving patient account balances, and communicating with patients regarding bills, statements, and account questions.
The ideal candidate has strong medical billing experience, understands the claims process, and can work independently to help ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
The Revenue Cycle Specialist will be responsible for supporting the full billing and claims follow-up process. This position will monitor outstanding claims, work rejected and denied claims, communicate with insurance companies, assist patients with billing questions, and help maintain accurate account documentation. The Revenue Cycle Specialist will work closely with leadership, front desk, clinical staff, coding, and billing resources to resolve account issues and support efficient revenue cycle operations.
Duties
- Review and follow up on outstanding insurance claims.
- Work claim rejections, denials, payer requests, and unpaid balances in a timely manner.
- Research underpaid, denied, or rejected claims and take appropriate corrective action.
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, payment issues, appeals, and billing concerns.
- Review patient statements and assist patients with billing questions, balances, and payment concerns.
- Contact patients regarding outstanding balances, payment options, and account questions.
- Document all account activity clearly and accurately in the practice management system.
- Assist with payment posting review, account reconciliation, and balance resolution as needed.
- Identify billing trends, recurring rejections, payer issues, or workflow concerns and report them to leadership.
- Work with front desk, clinical, coding, and administrative teams to resolve billing-related issues.
- Support clean claims, timely follow-up, and accurate patient account management.
- Escalate payer issues, patient account concerns, and unresolved billing matters to leadership when appropriate.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and practice policies.
- Provide professional and courteous communication with patients, staff, and payers.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of medical billing, claims follow-up, or revenue cycle experience preferred.
- Orthopedic, sports medicine, or specialty practice experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of insurance claims, denials, rejections, appeals, patient statements, and payment follow-up.
- Experience working with commercial insurance, Medicare, workers’ compensation, and patient responsibility balances preferred.
- Experience with EMR or practice management systems required.
- ModMed experience preferred, but not required.
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable and revenue cycle workflows.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to explain billing issues to patients clearly and professionally.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team and leadership priorities.

Pay: $25.00 – $32.00 per hour
