PR & Community Manager Jobs in Kenya at VamosWatu
Title: PR & Community Manager
Company: VamosWatu
Location: Kenya
About VamosWatu
VamosWatu is a talent partner for US-based Seed and Series A startups. We help founders build lean, high-performing in-house teams by owning the entire talent function: sourcing, vetting, payroll, compliance, and operations. We do not flood inboxes with CVs. We find the RIGHT people, vet them for skill and culture fit, and embed them directly into our customers' organizations.
Everyone we place is integrated with the customer and supported by VamosWatu's startup ecosystem, including HR, infrastructure, and community. You are not a faceless freelancer. You are a core part of the team you join.
About the Customer
Our customer is a US-headquartered, early-stage startup building an AI-powered consumer entertainment platform in the fantasy sports space. The product turns live event data into dynamic, personalized audio experiences for individual users, delivered through AI-driven personas. It is a genuine ground-floor build with a clear launch target and strong founder conviction.
The team today is small and focused: a founder and CEO, an engineer building the product, and one advisor who specializes in sports media partnerships and community management. The first version ships ahead of the upcoming football season (September 2026).
Role Summary
We are looking for a part-time PR & Community Manager to build and run the customer's earned-reach engine: getting the brand and its founder in front of the right audiences through media, partnerships, and community, not through a big ad budget.
This is a relationship-and-execution role. The founder is the face of the brand, and your core job is to get that face placed: onto the podcasts, into the articles, in front of the communities, and alongside the creators that fantasy sports fans actually trust. You own the day-to-day strategy and execution of the earned and community layer, working within the brand positioning the founder sets and the strategic guidance the advisor provides. Brand positioning and core creative direction stay with the founder; you build, pitch, and grow inside that frame.
In practice, this is a true 10x marketing seat. PR and community are the heart of it, but you will own the full marketing surface: organic social and content, the waitlist funnel, email and lifecycle, lean paid, partnerships, and analytics. It is broad by design, and we hire for the person who is energized by that range rather than buried by it.
This role is approximately 80 hours per month, around 20 hours per week. The duty list below sits at the upper edge of what is realistic at that volume. We are honest about that. We want someone who prioritizes ruthlessly and tells us early when something has to give.
Your First Mission: The First 1,000 on the Waitlist
Here is the goal you are hired to hit: get the first 1,000 people onto the waitlist ahead of the September 2026 launch.
That is the number you own, and everything in the duty list below exists to serve it. With effectively no paid budget, you will get there the durable way: earned media placements for the founder, real presence in the communities where fantasy fans already gather, creator and commissioner partnerships, and content people actually want to share. We are not looking for someone to wait for a playbook. We are looking for someone who reads "1,000 signups before launch" and already has three ideas for the first hundred.
Hit 1,000 and you have not just cleared a milestone. You have built the proof the company's investors need to believe in the product, and the engine everything after it runs on. A thousand is the first step, not the finish line. This role is built to grow with the company: from the first 1,000, to the launch audience, to the kind of reach this product is built for. If you want that runway, and not just the opening sprint, this is the seat for you.
What You'll Do
PR & Media Placement (your core)
- Build and maintain target lists of fantasy and sports podcasts, journalists, newsletters, and media outlets
- Pitch and book the founder onto podcasts, interviews, articles, and features
- Secure speaking slots and appearances at relevant fantasy and sports events
- Track placements, manage follow-ups, and build lasting relationships with hosts and writers
Partnerships & Influencer Outreach
- Identify and reach out to league commissioners, fantasy creators, and complementary brands
- Run the founder's commissioner-outreach program: outreach, follow-up, and logging results
- Manage gifted and earned creator collaborations; negotiate lightweight partnerships
Community Building (from zero)
- Establish and grow the brand's presence in relevant Reddit communities, Discord, and on X
- Spark and sustain genuine conversation; engage daily in the brand's voice
- Surface user feedback and emerging community themes to the founder weekly
Organic Social & Content
- Own the brand's organic presence across the platforms where fantasy fans live: Instagram, Facebook, and X, alongside the Reddit and Discord communities, and short-form video on TikTok or YouTube as the brand grows
- Plan and run a simple content calendar so posting stays consistent between the big moments
- Produce scrappy, multi-format content: short-form video, simple graphics, photo, and copy. Shipped and on-brand beats slow and perfect
- Draft thought-leadership posts in the founder's voice (mostly text-first, his take on the space)
- Write captions, light in-product strings, and edge-case microcopy for founder review
Growth, Funnel & Lifecycle
- Own the waitlist signup funnel: work with the engineer to find where people drop off and remove the friction, step by step
- Design referral and shareability loops so each signup helps bring the next one, leaning into how naturally shareable the product is
- Build and run waitlist email and nurture sequences that keep signups warm from the day they join to launch day
- Run small, cheap growth experiments, keep what works, kill what does not, and write down what you learned
Lean Paid (secondary, when budget exists)
- When a budget is allocated, run small, lean campaigns on Reddit, Meta, or X to amplify earned wins
- A/B test creative, monitor daily, and report performance
- Note: this is not the heart of the role. Most reach here will be earned, not bought.
Analytics & Reporting
- Own a weekly dashboard: placements landed, community growth, content performance, and waitlist signups by funnel step
- Translate the numbers into plain language: what is working, what is not
- Flag anomalies early, such as drops in signups, churn spikes, or content that overperforms
What We're Looking For
Required
- A hands-on PR / earned-media or community-building background. You are a doer, not a deck-maker
- Demonstrable results: media placements you secured, or a community you grew from near-zero
- Strong English writing inside a defined, voice-driven brand
- Real outreach and relationship skill: you can pitch, follow up, and turn a cold contact warm
- Self-directed: you make progress without daily supervision
- Comfortable producing content across formats, including scrappy short-form video, simple graphics, and clean copy
- AI-fluent in your day-to-day: you reach for modern AI tools to move faster and do more on your own
- Able to overlap with California (Pacific) early-morning hours, 6:00 to 10:00 AM, at least 2 to 3 days per week for live sync
Valuable
- Sports or fantasy interest or background (soccer/football experience is welcome, since the PR process transfers)
- Prior experience with a US-market consumer brand or an early-stage startup
- Influencer or partnerships experience
- Light data, SQL, or analytics-tool familiarity
- Native fluency on the platforms that matter here: Reddit, Discord, X, Instagram, and short-form video
- A feel for conversion and funnels: you have improved a signup or landing-page flow before
- A track record of referral, viral, or other organic-growth wins
- Familiarity with social scheduling, analytics, email, and lightweight design tools (for example Canva, CapCut, or similar)
- Comfort running lean paid campaigns when budget allows
Who Thrives Here
You like owning execution and being measured on it. You are relationship-driven and unembarrassed to pitch a stranger or be the brand's voice in a community. You move fast, prioritize hard, and say so early when 20 hours will not cover everything. You write cleanly inside someone else's brand voice without needing to make it your own. You treat an online community like a place you belong, not an audience you talk at. You are comfortable wearing many hats in a single week, moving from a media pitch to a community thread to a short video to a funnel tweak without dropping the ball. You want to help take a product from waitlist to launch and watch the waitlist climb past 1,000 because of work you did.
How You Will Work
- Part-time: approximately 20 hours per week, around 80 hours per month.
- Remote, with live overlap with California (Pacific) time at least 2 to 3 days per week.
- On overlap days, ideally Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, you are online from 6:00 to 10:00 AM California time (early morning Pacific) for live sync.
- You work on a reliable, modern laptop capable of running campaign, analytics, and creative tooling.
Reporting: you report operationally to the customer's founder, who owns brand positioning and creative direction. You receive strategic guidance from the company's advisor, who specializes in sports media partnerships and community management.

We aim to move quickly and respect your time. Expect to hear from us within 5 business days of applying.
