About the Role
A vibrant, student-centered charter school in Northwest Washington, D.C. is seeking a dedicated Physical Education (PE) Teacher to join its instructional team for the 2026–2027 academic year.
This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about promoting health, fitness, and overall student well-being. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, active lessons that help students develop physical skills, teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality, standards-aligned physical education instruction.
- Teach a variety of activities that build physical fitness, coordination, and motor skills, including team sports, individual fitness, and wellness education.
- Promote healthy habits, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a positive and inclusive environment.
- Create a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation from all students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with varying abilities.
- Assess student progress in physical fitness, skill development, and participation.
- Provide constructive feedback to support student growth and confidence.
- Collaborate with staff to support school-wide initiatives around health and wellness.
- Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress and participation.
- Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and professional development opportunities.
QualificationsEducation:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in a school setting.
- Experience leading physical education classes and promoting student engagement in physical activity.
Skills:
- Strong classroom management and ability to create a structured, active environment.
- Ability to motivate and engage students of all ability levels.
- Knowledge of fitness, health education, and physical development.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and student well-being.
