Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center (SMOC) is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduler to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside leading orthopaedic surgeons while playing a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care.

What You’ll Do

As a Surgery Scheduler, you will serve as the primary coordinator for the surgical journey, ensuring patients receive seamless care from scheduling through recovery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures across multiple hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Manage provider surgery calendars while optimizing operating room utilization.
  • Schedule pre-operative and post-operative appointments and ensure all required documentation is completed.
  • Obtain and submit prior authorizations and communicate with insurance companies regarding surgical approvals.
  • Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Coordinate with physicians, physician assistants, hospitals, surgery centers, anesthesia teams, and clinical staff to ensure efficient surgical workflows.
  • Verify insurance benefits and ensure all surgical requirements are met prior to the procedure date.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Manage multiple priorities while providing exceptional customer service to patients and families.
  • Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, authorization issues, and patient concerns proactively.
  • Support the surgical team with additional administrative and operational tasks as needed.


What We’re Looking For

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in orthopaedic surgery scheduling (Total Joint experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of surgical prior authorizations and insurance verification.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
  • Experience working within an electronic medical record (Athenahealth experience is a plus).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
