Position Description

Recruits, develops, selects, and coordinates all aspects of intercollegiate athletic team consistent with institutional, regional and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and NJCAA region regulations.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

  • Implements a recruiting program that is consistent with institutional, regional and NJCAA regulations

  • Provides training and teaches sport fundamentals for student-athletes and makes team selection for game participation

  • Coordinates practice schedules and notifies all pertinent personnel

  • Ensures academic scheduling is completed to meet the academic needs of the student-athletes in coordination with athletic director, appropriate academic coordinators, and advisors

  • Directs the assistant coach in areas pertaining to his or her sport program; including recommending to the Director of Athletics the hiring, termination, and performance evaluation of the assistant coach, and scheduling travel of the assistant for competition and recruiting

  • Recommends program budget, including equipment purchases, travel and recruiting

  • Responsible for program administrative functions including proper use of Purchase Card, college vehicles, and facilities usage as applicable.

Makes travel arrangements and lodging for the team

Attends Athletic Department staff meetings when scheduled

Supervises assistant coaches, managers, practices, tryouts and day-to-day operations of the office

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Familiar with conference and NJCAA rules, policies and regulations

Familiar with NCAA and NAIA academic transfer requirements

Ability to recruit qualified student-athletes to Wake Tech.

Knowledgeable of best practices in recruiting athletically and academically qualified students at the intercollegiate level

Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others

Ability to maintain records and team statistics accurately and be able to meet any reporting deadlines consistently

Demonstrates good organizational skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Intermediate skills with MS Office products

Requirements:

Associate degree required

Two years head coaching experience at the high school or club level in designated sport program OR two or more years of collegiate experience either as a player or assistant coach in designated sport program

Experience managing equipment and supplies

Valid Driver’s license and approval required by the College’s liability insurance carrier
