Job Overview
Our small medical practice seeks an experienced Medical/Clinical Assistant to join our healthcare team on a part-time basis, approximately 10 to 15 hours a week. Candidate must be available to work on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The ideal candidate will be a team player, detail-oriented, responsible, and have experience working in small medical practices.This position performs a variety of routine administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the practice.
The Medical/Clinical Assistant is responsible for coordinating and performing general office functions and receptionist duties including greeting patients, maintaining patient schedules, filing, and answering phones and transmitting messages. The Medical/Clinical Assistant must also be clinically competent and assist the physician in delivery of direct patient care, including prepping and properly updating charts, intake of patients and collecting patient’s medical histories and vitals, administering UAs, prepare examination rooms, and generally assist physician in evaluating and managing patients with chronic pain coditions. Candidates must have experience with EHR systems to document and manage medical records, preferably experience with Athena.
Essential Functions/Duties
- Greet patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage patient inquiries
- Manage front desk operations and ensure the waiting area is clean and organized
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and diagnostic services
- Handle all faxes and medical record requests
- Prepare examination rooms for each visit and responsible for making sure exam rooms are clean, organized, and stocked with appropriate supplies and paperwork
- Assist patients during intake processes, including collecting medical histories, vital signs, and gathering all other appropriate patient information for the exam to present to the provider
- Obtaining pertinent reports such as imaging, labs, test results and presenting them to the medical provider ·
- Assist provider during patient examinations and procedures
- Operate EHR systems efficiently to document patient information accurately and manage medical records, including updating EHR to reflect visit information and other patient interactions
- Print prescriptions (assist with electronic prescriptions) and orders for the patient
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards in all clinical activities
- Provide excellent patient service by addressing patient questions and inquiries, and communication with physician and other staff about same
- Maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential, including complying with HIPPA at all times.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize a wide variety of administrative and clinical tasks, meet tight timeframes, adjust to unexpected or unscheduled demands, and revise work accordingly
Experience/Qualifications
- Medical Assistant or CNA (certification/license preferred, but not required)
- Prior experience working in a small medical practice preferred
- Experience in a pain management, orthopedics, sports medicine, spine, neurology, or other specialty clinic setting is highly desirable
- Hands-on experience with vital signs measurement, intake procedures, and collecting necessary patient information to effectively prepare for each patient visit
- Familiarity with EHR systems and medical terminology to ensure accurate documentation and efficient workflow, experiece using Athena EHR is a plus
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ICD coding
Pay: $15.00 per hour
