Park and Recreation Director (FT) Jobs in Habersham County, GA at Habersham County Board of Commissioners
This position is responsible for overall administration of the programs, operations, and facilities
of the department.
- Organizes, plans, develops, and directs the operation of adult and youth recreation and
- Prepares, schedules, organizes, and supervises programming including, but not limited to,
land and water aerobics classes, swim lessons, tennis, golf, home school P.E. classes,
weekend tournaments, and special events including school break camp and activities,
community-wide special events, and swim meets.
- Manages the Fairgrounds including scheduling of private rentals, and community events.
- Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of office, athletic, and custodial staff.
- Selects, schedules, and directs the work of instructors and volunteers for recreation
- Assists with planning and supervising the construction, maintenance, repair, and purchase
- Seeks and secures external funding for department programs and facilities.
- Prepares and administers the annual department budget; monitors expenditures under the
current budget; directs expenditures to maximize the use of available funding; implements
fee structures.
- Markets programs and provide information to the public about department programs. Make
presentations to groups, speaks with reporters, presents information to the Board of
Commissioners, and supervises the preparation of news releases and bulletins.
- Coordinates pool programs and rentals; schedules, supervises and handles payroll for
lifeguards.
- Coordinates and supervises departmental programs with other county agencies,
departments, and schools; develops and provides contracts for all outside program
providers.
- Coordinates and directs all athletic programs that are offered including training of
officials/coaches, setting up draft and observations, setting and organizing of practices.
- Ensure all facilities are open and ready for athletic events.
- Secures bids for uniforms, supplies and equipment; orders and distributes supplies and
equipment, ensuring that proper equipment is available for events.

- Attend various meetings within the county, including, but not limited to, Board of
Commissioner’s meetings, Fairgrounds Commission meetings, meetings within GRPA
statewide, and other meetings are necessary.
- Responds to inquiries and/or resolves complaints from program participants and the public.
- Coordinate administration of the concession stands, including staffing, stocking, and
- Monitors crowd activity at events; take disciplinary action as needed.
- Meet, greet and assist patrons in any manner.
- Supervises the management all pool operations – mechanical systems, water sanitation
equipment, pool heaters, and other pool operational systems. Monitors for problems, report
and ensure corrections are made in a timely manner. Maintains pool water chemistry within
ranges required by the State of Georgia regulations at all times. Determines the proper
correction for any balance issues and adjust pool as needed. Closes pools, when
necessary, to correct water chemistry or contamination issues. Report all incidents to the
Health Department.
- Attend Recreation Board meetings and assist as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of
specialized training in the field of work. Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in Recreation
and/or Leisure Studies, Physical Education, Sports Management or similar degree program
preferred.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the
subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the
division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 4 months of hire date: certification in First Aid,
CPR, and Pool or Aquatic Facility operations (CPO or AFO). WSI and American Red Cross
Instructor Certifications are desirable.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of
Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
The successful candidate must complete a Background/Reference Check and Pre-Employment
Drug Screening prior to the start of employment.
