We are seeking a skilled and dependable Night ICU / Treatment Equine Technician to provide high-quality overnight patient care and support our hospitalized and critical care caseload.
Job Overview
Join our dynamic overnight ICU team as an Equine Technician and become a vital part of providing exceptional critical care for our equine patients. As an Overnight ICU Equine Technician, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality animal care, assisting with complex medical cases, and supporting the veterinary team in a fast-paced, compassionate environment. Your dedication will directly impact the recovery and comfort of our equine patients.
Duties
- Provide overnight monitoring and nursing care for hospitalized, post-procedure, and ICU equine patients
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments including IV/IM/oral medications, fluid therapy, bandage changes, and supportive care
- Monitor and document patient vitals, pain levels, intake/output, and treatment responses accurately in medical records
- Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate promptly with the veterinarian on call
- Manage overnight care for performance horses recovering from diagnostics, lameness procedures, surgery, or emergency treatment
- Assist with emergency admissions and after-hours treatments as needed
- Ensure all hospitalized horses have appropriate food, water, bedding, and comfort throughout the shift
- Maintain treatment areas, ICU stalls, pharmacy, and equipment cleanliness and readiness
- Perform end-of-shift patient handoffs to ensure seamless continuity of care
- Uphold hospital protocols and safety standards for both patients and staff
Qualifications
- Previous equine veterinary technician or equine hospital experience required (ICU/emergency experience strongly preferred)
- Strong horse handling skills and confidence working with high-performance and critical-care patients
- Experience administering medications, placing/maintaining treatments, and monitoring hospitalized patients preferred
- Ability to work independently with strong critical thinking and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred but not required based on experience
