** Reporting to the Coordinator, Aquatics, this position involves instructing classes for children and adults in all levels of swimming and performing normal lifeguard duties.
** Duties Include****:
*** Performs normal lifeguard duties including supervising guests and ensuring the pool area is free from hazards.
* Plans and instructs all swim programs as needed.
* Completes documentation related to facility incidents, water quality, cleaning schedules, checklists, reports and program records.
* Tests water quality in swimming pools.
* Carries out assigned cleaning and minor preventative maintenance tasks.
* Performs other duties as required.
* All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
** Required
Education and Experience ****:
*** Minimum 16 years of age.
* Current Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor Certification.
* Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option).
* Current CPR Level C certification.
* A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
** Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
****:
*** Demonstrates initiative and a willingness to learn.
* Good interpersonal skills, exhibiting courtesy and professionalism when dealing with customers and co-workers.
* Able to maintain records, complete incident reports, and perform related clerical duties as required.
* Ability to operate water testing equipment and first aid equipment
* Ability to obtain and maintain an acceptable (Vulnerable Sector) Police Information Check.
** Preferred
Education and Experience ****:
*** Standard First Aid Certification.
* Pool Operators Level 1.
* Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
