Overview
This position works in the Eileen Dailly Aquatic Programs organizational unit. The role involves lifeguarding and instructing at the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre. Employees perform operational, instructional, lifeguarding, janitorial and minor maintenance tasks while offering instructional and recreational aquatic programs for all age groups.
Responsibilities
- Provide lifeguarding services during assigned shifts.
- Instruct patrons on aquatic skills according to standards set by relevant authorities.
- Perform janitorial and minor maintenance tasks to keep the pool area safe and welcoming.
- Work in accordance with established practices and procedures, exercising tact and firmness with patrons.
- Consult with a supervisor on difficult or unusual matters and accept performance reviews.
- Perform related work as required.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Completed courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatic instruction, and pool maintenance.
- Sound knowledge of lifeguarding theory, lifesaving, cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation and first aid.
- Ability to display aquatic skills and instruct in those skills at required standards.
- Valid certifications:
Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor, and Standard First Aid. - Police information check required.
Schedule
48 hours biweekly (0.60 FTE);
Monday 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Friday 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Sunday 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM.
