Overview
This position works in the Eileen Dailly Aquatic Programs organizational unit. This is aquatic work in lifeguarding and instructing, on an assigned shift, at Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre. An employee of a position in this class performs a variety of operational, instructional, lifeguarding, janitorial and minor maintenance tasks in offering instructional and recreational aquatic programs for all age groups.
A Lifeguard/Instructor Aquatics performs these duties in accordance with established practices and procedures, exercising tact and firmness in dealing with all patrons. The more difficult or unusual matters are referred to a supervisor who checks and reviews work performance in terms of effectiveness of the aquatic programs and services rendered and in terms of conformance with established practices and procedures.
Performs related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Perform operational, instructional, lifeguarding, janitorial and minor maintenance tasks in offering aquatic programs for all age groups.
- Exercise tact and firmness in dealing with all patrons.
- Consult with supervisors to ensure compliance with established practices and procedures and the effectiveness of the program.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent combination of training and experience, supplemented by courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatic instruction and pool maintenance.
- Sound knowledge of lifeguarding theory and practice, lifesaving, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid.
- Demonstrated aquatic skills and ability to instruct at standards set by relevant authorities.
- Required certifications:
– Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool
– Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor
– Standard First Aid - Police Information Check.

Schedule:
44 hours biweekly (0.55 FTE);
Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 PM – 10:00 PM, Tuesday 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
