Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Is responsible for filing requests for prior authorization for all insurances that require based upon plan or insurance contract.
- Must request, obtain, and document (within current software) all prior authorizations (or denials of same) appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Must obtain information about patient insurance coverage, benefits and eligibility.
- Is responsible for maintaining and updating internal listing of insurance carriers that require authorization.
- Runs system generated reports to verify procedures by insurances requiring authorization are being captured.
- Assists collection team with obtaining retro authorizations.
- Coordinates with scheduling, back office, and front office on prior authorization activity.
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and clinic requirements.
- Performs related work as required.
Education, Training and Experience: Previous Insurance or authorization experience preferred
Required:
- High School Diploma
- Computer literacy and proficient in using Excel
Preferred:
- 2 years experience in medical office setting
- Good understanding of ICD10 and CPT codes and their use.

This individual must have good organizational skills as well as excellent telephone, written and verbal communication skills. (S)he must project a professional image and work well with the general public and co-workers. Must be able to work as a team member.
Physical Demands:
Approximately 80% of time spent sitting with some reaching. Occasional bending, twisting, and lifting loads typically not in excess of 45 lbs for up to 50 FT.
Machine/Equipment Used:
Computers, printers, fax, adding machine, phone and copy machines.
