Job Description
Title: Assistant Coach – High School Football
Location: F.L. Schlagle High School, Kansas City, Kansas
The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students in over 60 languages. The district employs approximately 4,000 staff, including more than 1,800 teachers.
Job Goal
:
Directly responsible to the head coach of a sport. The assistant coach will exhibit total loyalty to the program, the head coach, and other assistants at all times, and carry out all assignments given by the head coach.
Essential Functions
- Assist the head coach as directed.
- Organize and direct coaching staff.
- Collect physical examination forms.
- Collect insurance release forms.
- Report injuries to the school nurse.
- Take inventory and submit a list of equipment needs.
- Check out and collect all equipment.
- Keep accurate records and reports of lost or stolen equipment.
- Provide a roster of players.
- Provide the Athletic Director with a list of athletes to receive awards at the end of the season and plan the awards ceremony.
- Ensure proper team conduct on trips and during contests.
- Know all rules pertaining to the sport.
- Treat injuries or attend to athletes.
- Clean and maintain equipment and uniforms.
- Organize practice sessions.
Qualifications
:
- Certified teacher or qualified for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Communication / Organization
:
Maintain communication with school personnel, parents/guardians, and enhance cooperative action to meet the educational needs of students. Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Perform other related work as required.
Reasoning Ability
:
Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
Language Skills
:
Read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, curricula, correspondence, and protocols. Present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
Physical Demands
:
The employee must sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear regularly. Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally push items up to 50 pounds (e.g., pushing on a bike or wheelchair). Occasionally visit a child’s home. Requires close, distance, and depth vision.
Work Environment
:
The noise level is usually loud and acceptable for this environment. The employee is directly responsible for students’ safety, work output and well-being.

Based on the Kansas City Kansas Supplemental Salary Schedule.
