We are seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered Football Coach to join our athletic program. The ideal candidate is passionate about mentoring young athletes, fostering sportsmanship, and creating a safe, competitive, and positive team environment.

Position Summary

The High School Football Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the school’s football program while promoting athletic excellence, academic achievement, leadership, and personal growth. The coach will provide instruction in football fundamentals, develop student-athletes’ skills, and create a culture built on respect, accountability, teamwork, and integrity.

Team assignments (Varsity, Junior Varsity, or other levels) will be determined based on school needs and the Athletic Director’s discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise all assigned football team activities.
  • Develop and conduct effective practices that emphasize skill development, conditioning, teamwork, and player safety.
  • Teach football fundamentals, offensive and defensive strategies, game preparation, and sportsmanship.
  • Foster a positive team culture built on respect, accountability, leadership, discipline, and integrity.
  • Encourage student-athletes to maintain academic success and eligibility.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, transportation, and school-sponsored athletic events.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment that prioritizes student well-being.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, school staff, officials, and athletic administration.
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches and athletic department staff to ensure program success.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, uniforms, transportation coordination, and game-day operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), league, school, and district athletic policies and procedures.
  • Attend required coaches’ meetings, athletic department meetings, and professional development.
  • Serve as a positive role model and representative of ELITE Public Schools at all times.
  • Support offseason player development and program growth as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous football coaching experience at the youth, high school, collegiate, or club level preferred.
  • Knowledge of football rules, player development, conditioning, and game strategy.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop student-athletes.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required during the athletic season.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required employment background clearances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous high school coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) rules and regulations.
  • Experience developing student-athletes both athletically and academically.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse student populations.

Required Certifications (Prior to Season Start)

The selected candidate must complete all required certifications before the first official practice, including:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest
  • NFHS Heat Illness Prevention
  • Any additional CIF, district, or state-required certifications

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive sportsmanship.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, run, bend, kneel, and demonstrate football drills for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry athletic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel with athletic teams for practices, competitions, and school events.

Compensation

Seasonal Stipend: Compensation is based on ELITE Public Schools’ approved athletic stipend schedule and varies according to assignment, experience, and available program funding.
