Position Summary

The Head Tennis Professional serves as a key leader within the First Serve Muncie Tennis Department and is responsible for delivering exceptional tennis instruction, member experiences, and player development programming. This role works closely with the Director of Tennis to execute the club’s tennis strategy while helping grow participation, member retention, and tennis revenues.

The Head Tennis Professional will lead by example on court, mentor assistant professionals, support junior and adult programming, and help create a welcoming, energetic, and service-focused tennis culture.

Essential ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Player Development

  • Deliver high-quality private, semi-private, and group tennis instruction.
  • Develop and implement instructional programs for juniors and adults of all skill levels.
  • Assist in creating player development pathways from beginner through competitive levels.
  • Conduct player evaluations and provide recommendations for appropriate programming.
  • Maintain professional standards and teaching excellence at all times.

Program Execution

  • Assist with the delivery and execution of all tennis programming including:
  • Junior Development Programs
  • Adult Clinics
  • Cardio Tennis
  • UTR Events
  • Leagues and Social Play
  • Camps and Special Events
  • Ensure programs are organized, well-attended, and professionally delivered.
  • Support tournament operations and special events hosted by First Serve Muncie.

Member Experience

  • Build strong relationships with members, guests, and program participants.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador of First Serve Muncie both on and off the court.
  • Proactively engage members and encourage participation in lessons, clinics, leagues, and events.
  • Address member concerns professionally and escalate issues when appropriate.

Revenue Generation

  • Meet individual lesson revenue expectations established by management.
  • Promote club programs and events to increase participation and retention.
  • Support membership growth initiatives and community outreach efforts.
  • Assist in growing overall tennis participation and tennis department revenue.

Staff Leadership

  • Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and developing assistant tennis professionals.
  • Promote a positive team culture among all tennis staff.
  • Serve as the lead professional in the absence of the Director of Tennis.
  • Help ensure consistent teaching standards across all instructional staff.

Facility & Operations

  • Ensure courts, teaching equipment, and tennis areas are maintained in a professional manner.
  • Assist with scheduling, court utilization, and daily tennis operations.
  • Follow club policies and operational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate lesson records and participant information.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of tennis teaching experience preferred.
  • USPTA or PTR Professional Certification required.
  • Strong playing background and teaching ability.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
  • Passion for growing the game of tennis and developing players.

Required Certifications

  • Maintain active USPTA and/or PTR certification throughout employment.
  • Complete all required continuing education to remain in good standing.
  • Maintain Safe Play or equivalent youth protection certification if required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, demonstrate tennis skills, and teach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and transport tennis equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor tennis environments.

Employment Status

Full-Time Exempt / Non-Exempt (as determined by club policy)

Pay: From $45,000.00 per year
