Summary:

The premier professional club-to-club basketball competition platform in East Asia, 

East Asia Super League is now seeking a Commercial Head to build brand relationships and revenue across a region encompassing the core target markets of greater China, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines; primarily by driving business development for sponsorship, and secondarily for other saleable assets and EASL brand extensions where applicable. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive, motivate, inspire and mentor a regional team of sales executives to generate revenue and mature revenue streams for the young organization.
  • Build on and refine sales practices and processes for global, regional and market specific brand partnerships. 
  • Work closely with the Marketing, Research, Design, Operations and Finance teams, drive commercial business development in the region.
  • Prospect, mine, pitch, negotiate and secure commercial partnerships with entities through the marketing of EASL’s range of branded assets and platforms, including IP rights, broadcast and game sponsorship assets, grass roots initiatives, digital assets, and more. 
  • Proactively identify and pursue new commercial opportunities with brand partners to develop a business development pipeline, conducting appropriate analysis and diligence as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize asset packages for commercial clients. Participate in the development of commercial assets tailored to market needs.
  • Monitor, track and analyze trends and practices to build a competitive edge.
  • Maintain excellent post-deal client services; execute partner rights and benefits; work with brand partners on win-win consumer promotions to help drive marketing exposure.
  • Gather and analyze audience data and other results from partners; maintain central repository.
  • Create and participate in presentations to senior executives internally and externally.
  • Hire and manage a lean but effective team commensurate with business needs, which may at times include external parties as needed.

Qualifications include:

  • At least 12-15 years of experience in the commercialization of sports and/or entertainment properties to consumer brands across the region of greater China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.
  • Proven track record of success in driving a regional commercial team, business development, sales and marketing, customer relationship management, and account servicing.
  • Existing network of contacts amongst leading brands in territory, domestic and international.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present effectively to range of audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously and flexibly in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong management skills and ability to build a lean but effective team.
  • Effective negotiator with experience working with legal professionals on contracting process.
  • P&L budgeting and forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
  • Education: University degree (or equivalent); advanced business degree a plus
  • Languages: fluency in English and ideally one other major East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean).
  • Efficient computer skills in PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other applications
  • Knowledge of basketball and a passion for sports is highly preferred.
