Role Description
The Head Basketball Coach is a contract, on‑site role based in Richmond Hill, ON, responsible for leading training sessions and overseeing player development for youth basketball programs. This role includes planning and running daily practices, teaching fundamental and advanced basketball skills, and implementing age‑appropriate drills and conditioning exercises. The Head Coach will design seasonal training plans, organize scrimmages, provide individual feedback, and promote sportsmanship and team cohesion.
The role also involves communicating regularly with parents or guardians, ensuring athlete safety, supervising assistant coaches, and supporting academy events, clinics, and camps.
Qualifications
- Strong basketball-specific expertise, including Basketball Coaching experience and advanced Basketball knowledge.
- Demonstrated Coaching skills with youth athletes, including the ability to motivate, mentor, and manage diverse skill levels.
- Effective Communication skills for interacting with players, families, and staff in a clear, respectful, and professional manner.
- Experience in Training design and delivery, including planning practices, conditioning programs, and skill‑development sessions.
- Previous experience as a head or lead coach in youth or club basketball programs is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of child and youth development, and commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and positive learning environment.
- Ability to work on‑site in Richmond Hill, ON, including evenings and weekends as program schedules require.
- Relevant coaching certifications, first aid/CPR training, and background checks suitable for working with children and youth.
