Gymnastics & Sports Coordinator – ElDorado Jobs in El Dorado, KS at YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF WICHITA KANSAS
General Function
Under the direction of the Branch Director and appropriate Program Directors, the Gymnastics & Sports Coordinator will provide dual leadership, operational management, and hands-on execution for both the Gymnastics Department and General Sports Programs.
This hybrid role requires a dynamic leader who can seamlessly shift between administrative coordination (such as league formation, budgeting, and roster management) and direct instructional execution (coaching competitive gymnastics, leading sports camps, and managing multi-site game days). The Coordinator will assist in supervising, training, and evaluating staff, driving fundraising efforts, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and engagement in accordance with all Greater Wichita YMCA policies.
Work Schedule: 40-hour work week. Requires a flexible schedule that reflects the needs of the branch, including evenings, weekends, and travel for competitive gymnastics meets.
Job Responsibilities
1. Program Management & Administration

Gymnastics Operations: Manage and update all gymnastics rosters. Create and distribute monthly department newsletters, and maintain up-to-date gymnastics bulletin boards.

League & Academy Coordination: Assist the Senior Program Director with youth/adult sports league formation, academy operations, and field/facility preparation.

Data & Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, accurate records of program participation numbers and incident reports.

Community Outreach: Schedule and conduct school and program visits (e.g., School PE Classes, MSASP) to introduce sports/gymnastics and drive program recruitment and retention.

Budget & Evaluation: Assist in the development of relevant sports budgets and participate in regular program evaluations.
2. Direct Instruction & Competitive Coaching

Class Leadership: Actively lead and instruct youth/adult sports prep classes (Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer) and gymnastics classes.

Competitive Gymnastics: Serve as the Head Coach for a minimum of at least one competitive gymnastics team.

Travel: Travel when appropriate to support and coach assigned competitive teams at regional gymnastics meets.

Camps & Clinics: Design frameworks (schedules, themes, goals) and execute School Day Out and summer sports/gymnastics camps and clinics. Coordinate with local colleges and professional organizations for specialized clinics.

Participant Progression: Implement measurable skills charts for participants to support clear program progression.
3. Staff Supervision & Multi-Site Leadership

Staff Coaching & Safety: Assist Directors in supervising gymnastics and sports staff. Monitor instructors to ensure excellent coaching, and actively correct staff in reference to their job descriptions and safety expectations.

Multi-Site Game Day Support: Provide leadership support at opposite facility sites, serving as the primary lead on game days where the Director cannot be present.

Member Experience: Build authentic relationships with children, parents, and volunteers. Actively improve the game-day and facility experience, measuring success through Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and participant feedback.
4. Safety, Risk Management & Maintenance

Facility & Equipment Safety: Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and supplies. Inspect equipment daily for safety and irregularities, reporting unsafe conditions immediately in writing.

Incident Reporting: Report all incidents/accidents on appropriate forms and submit them to the supervisor within 24 hours.

Child Abuse Prevention: Actively screen for abuse risk, provide ongoing staff supervision/training regarding boundaries, enforce all CAP policies, respond promptly to violations, and strictly follow mandated reporting laws.
5. Mission & Fundraising

Value Integration: Ensure the YMCA mission, vision, and character values are consistently communicated and incorporated into all programs.

Fundraising Support: Actively lead and support Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Education & Experience
-
Minimum Age: 21 years old.
-
Experience: Proven, relevant department experience in sports management, recreation, or gymnastics instruction/coaching.
Physical & Mental Requirements

Physical Stamina: Ability to routinely perform physical activities including climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, crawling, reaching, sitting, standing, and performing moderate to heavy physical activity for extended periods.

Lifting: Must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Dexterity & Acuity: Possess finger dexterity, grasp, and the ability to perform repetitive motions; normal talking, hearing, and high visual acuity to perform detailed tasks.

Cognitive Skills: Must be highly detail-oriented, exhibit a high degree of accuracy, task-management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to make independent, sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.

Interpersonal Leadership: High level of maturity, patience, dependability, and discretion regarding confidential matters. Ability to lead others by assigned goals, collaborate as a team player, and work with diverse groups.
Job Requirements

YMCA Onboarding: Complete New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.

Certifications: Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, O2, and the Listen First Workshop in accordance with Conditions of Employment.

Emergency Preparedness: Learn and master all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch.

Accountability: Responsible for all scheduled hours; must secure approved substitutes in advance and in writing if unable to work.
