COORDINATES WITH:Coaches, Building Administrators, Physical Education Teachers

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sport Performance Director leads students in grades 5–12 in sport‑specific performance training – both in and out of season. The Sport Performance Director implements training programs in an environment that supports the maximization of each student’s physical abilities, injury reduction and prevention, leadership development and their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop strength training and conditioning programs in‑season, off‑season, and pre‑season for all school‑sanctioned male and female athletic programs in a manner that reflects research‑driven practices, including recovery, nutrition, sleep, hydration, and training methodology.

Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff. Every sport has a year‑long training plan in place.

Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.

Develop and implement evidence‑based injury prevention strategies in collaboration with coaches, healthcare professionals, and the ATC. Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.

Communicate training program expectations and opportunities to coaches, parents, and athletes to ensure a cohesive program. Meet with varsity head coaches and actively work to encourage participation in the school by meeting with teams and individuals.

Partner with the athletic department administration to document, promote, and celebrate the accomplishments of athletes in the sports performance program through social media, signage, and other appropriate methods.

Foster a culture rooted in Christian faith of excellence, accountability, discipline, and servant leadership.

Maintain accurate records of athlete participation, performance testing, and program outcomes. Assess athletes frequently to determine if athletic training is effective in reaching measurable goals. Share this data with coaches and athletes.

Develop systems for tracking attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.

Conduct an annual needs analysis for each sports team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team’s athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sports season.

Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.

Maintain certifications and continue to seek professional growth in sports performance.

Meet monthly with the Athletic Director to review training assessments and progress, planning, and assess program efficacy.

Oversee the operation, maintenance, safety, inventory, and long‑term development of all sports performance facilities and equipment. Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the program.

Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that are rooted in our Christian faith and mirror the school’s expectations for curricular and extra‑curricular activities, as stated in the school’s handbook.

Instruct curricular strength and conditioning classes in partnership with the PE department, as needed.

Coordinate a co‑curricular novice‑level program exposure for grades 5–8 that serves as a strength and conditioning introduction reflecting research‑driven practices and our country’s Long‑Term Athletic/Fitness Development Model.

REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrates strong Christian character.

Pursues excellence in a Christian school setting.

BS in Kinesiology or related field.

A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency—for example, the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.

A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
