About The Role

The Graphic Designer at Spectrum News plays a vital role in creating compelling visual content that enhances the station's news, marketing, and promotional efforts. This position involves designing a wide range of visuals including icons, headshots, full-screen images, and maps tailored to the daily needs of the news channel. The designer will ensure that all visual elements adhere to Spectrum’s brand standards, maintaining consistency across all platforms and campaigns. Collaboration is key, as the designer will work closely with various clients on projects related to promotions, live remotes, studio productions, programming, and sales initiatives. The role requires a creative individual who can translate complex stories and messages into visually engaging content that resonates with viewers. Working in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, the Graphic Designer will contribute to the creation of timely, accurate, and impactful visuals that support Spectrum News’ mission to inform and connect communities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience designing for television, print, and web applications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Cinema 4D, and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with Chyron or similar broadcast graphics systems
  • Strong understanding of current graphic design best practices and standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strategic thinking skills
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and the capacity to brainstorm innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate design solutions
  • Ability to relate well with diverse populations and age groups
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and during severe weather emergencies
  • Ability to travel occasionally to production sites as needed

Responsibilities

  • Create visual content including icons, headshots, full-screen images, and maps for daily news production
  • Design visuals for advertisements, marketing campaigns, and promotional materials while maintaining brand consistency
  • Collaborate with newsroom staff, marketing teams, and external clients on various projects such as promotions, live remotes, and studio productions
  • Ensure all visuals are accurate, timely, and aligned with Spectrum News’ editorial standards
  • Develop and implement a cohesive design style across all Spectrum Networks’ marketing collateral
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate innovative visual ideas for news and marketing initiatives
  • Adapt quickly to changing news cycles and project requirements, delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines
  • Maintain proficiency with current design tools and broadcast graphics systems to enhance productivity and output quality
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues related to graphic design software and hardware
