GENERAL MANAGER
Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
The General Manager (GM) serves as the chief operator of the brand new flagship health club in Fort Lauderdale Florida. You will be responsible for the overall success of the facility across all departments. The GM leads a high-performance team with a relentless focus on member experience, revenue growth, operational excellence, and brand integrity. This is a leadership role for a driven, results-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced fitness environment and leads by example on the floor every day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Management
- Oversee all day-to-day club operations including facility management, staffing, scheduling, and vendor relationships
- Ensure the club meets or exceeds all operational KPIs including member retention, attrition rates, and NPS scores
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all departments
- Oversee the onboarding, management, and performance review of all club staff
- Coordinate equipment maintenance schedules and facility repair requests to minimize downtime
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations including health, safety, and labor laws
Sales & Membership Growth
- Support sales team on new membership sales through direct team leadership, coaching, and accountability
- Partner with Director of Sales to set and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals for membership advisors
- Support Director of Sales with developing and executing local marketing initiatives, community outreach, and corporate membership programs
- Monitor lead generation pipelines, conversion rates, and follow-up cadences
- Analyze membership trends and implement proactive strategies to minimize cancellations and freezes
- Manage EFT billing accuracy, collections, and membership agreement compliance
Personal Training Department
- Provide strategic oversight of the personal training program including revenue targets, session volume, and trainer productivity
- Partner with the Personal Training Director to recruit, develop, and retain top personal training talent
- Ensure all trainers maintain current certifications and participate in ongoing education
- Monitor PT sales processes including fitness assessments, recurring services and renewals
- Drive PT attach rates for new members through systematic introduction and follow-up protocols
- Review trainer schedules, client load, and session completion rates to maximize department revenue
Group Fitness Program
- Support the Director of Group Fitness with the group fitness schedule, instructor roster, and class format offerings
- Ensure class formats are current, varied, and aligned with member demand and fitness trends
- Monitor class attendance and utilization data to optimize scheduling and eliminate underperforming slots
- Ensure seamless integration of group fitness into the overall member experience and retention strategy
Member Experience & Customer Service
- Champion a culture of exceptional service at every touchpoint — from check-in to goodbye
- Personally greet and build relationships with members on the floor daily
- Implement and monitor member feedback systems including surveys, Google reviews, and in-person interactions
- Resolve escalated member concerns promptly and professionally, turning detractors into advocates
- Develop member engagement programs, referral incentives, and retention events
- Track and respond to member satisfaction metrics and social media reputation
Cleanliness & Facility Standards
- Maintain an immaculate facility that reflects the Powerhouse Gym brand — zero tolerance for unclean conditions
- Implement daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning checklists across all areas: locker rooms, training floor, cardio area, bathrooms, and common spaces
- Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify and immediately address cleanliness or maintenance issues
- Manage relationships with janitorial staff or cleaning vendors to ensure consistent standards
- Ensure all equipment is sanitized, functional, and properly maintained
- Uphold ADA compliance and overall facility safety standards
Team Leadership & Culture
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing team aligned with Powerhouse Gym’s culture and values
- Conduct regular one-on-ones, team meetings, and performance reviews
- Foster a motivating, accountable, and inclusive workplace culture
- Lead by example — visible on the floor, engaged with staff and members, and committed to excellence
- Create clear career development pathways for high-potential team members
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 3–5+ years of fitness industry management experience, preferably in a large-format or multi-department gym environment
- Proven track record of hitting membership sales goals and driving revenue across multiple departments
- Experience managing 10+ employees across diverse functions
- Strong financial acumen —budget oversight, and KPI reporting
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with gym management software such as Hubspot, ABC Fitness and Google Workspace
- CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire)
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Kinesiology, or related field
- Personal training or group fitness certification (NASM, ACE, ISSA, AFAA, or equivalent)
- Experience in a franchise or branded gym environment
- Bilingual — English and Spanish strongly preferred given Miami market
