General Manager / Director of Operations, Indoor Sports Facility Jobs in Hillsborough at Performance Sports Center

GENERAL MANAGER & DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS (INDOOR SPORTS FACILITY) Performance Sports Center | Hillsborough, NJ (Somerset County)

Performance Sports Center is seeking an entrepreneurial, growth driven General Manager & Director of Operations to lead all operations, staffing, programming, customer experience, business development, and financial performance for a 26,000 square foot multi revenue stream indoor sports and recreation facility.

This is not a facility caretaker role. We are looking for an operator and business builder who will own the P&L, grow revenue, expand programming, build teams and systems, and help scale a fast growing sports platform. If you are energized by building rather than maintaining, read on.

About Performance Sports Center

Performance Sports Center is a modern, 26,000 square foot multi sport facility serving athletes, families, teams, trainers, and community organizations throughout central New Jersey. The facility includes:

  • A FIFA grade turf field
  • A state of the art fitness and performance training gym
  • Party and event room
  • Meeting and conference space
  • Programming spanning camps, clinics, leagues, private training, rentals, and events

The facility runs multiple revenue streams across rentals, programming, training, and events, and is part of a growing sports organization platform with substantial expansion plans. This role carries real authority to build: programming, pricing, partnerships, and team are yours to develop.

The Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity for an entrepreneurial operator to increase utilization, launch new programs, drive revenue, build operational systems, and improve performance across the business. Compensation is structured so that the operator who grows the business shares directly in the upside through a performance based bonus. The more you build, the more you earn.

Schedule

The facility operates primarily during afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. The GM is expected to maintain a visible leadership presence during peak periods, including nights and weekends. This is a customer driven business, not a daytime desk job, and the ideal candidate thrives in that environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day to day operations and full P&L responsibility for the facility
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, KPI tracking, and operational reporting
  • Drive measurable revenue growth across all business lines
  • Develop and expand programming, rentals, partnerships, leagues, camps, and events
  • Build and manage an annual master calendar with utilization and revenue targets, and review results to continually improve
  • Maximize utilization of the field, the gym, and operating hours
  • Identify new revenue, partnership, sponsorship, and ancillary income opportunities (concessions, retail, events)
  • Lead marketing, social media, and community outreach to drive demand and fill the schedule
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and facility maintenance to control costs
  • Own facility safety, risk management, insurance compliance, and incident response
  • Build systems, accountability structures, and performance standards
  • Recruit, train, manage, and evaluate staff and program leaders
  • Oversee customer experience, scheduling, cleanliness, and maintenance coordination
  • Build relationships with clubs, schools, trainers, and community partners
  • Work directly with ownership on strategic growth and expansion
  • Lead by example with active, visible operational leadership

How Success Is Measured

Revenue growth, facility utilization, programming expansion, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, staff retention, and profitability improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • 7 to 10+ years of senior or general management experience
  • A demonstrated track record of growing revenue and improving operational performance (you will be asked for a specific example)
  • Experience running a sports facility, fitness operation, hospitality business, recreation center, entertainment venue, or comparable high volume operation
  • Proven success managing teams, budgets, and operational systems
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Comfort working evenings and weekends during peak periods
  • An ownership mentality and high accountability

Preferred Background

Indoor sports facilities, fitness or health clubs, recreation management, hospitality, family entertainment centers, athletic facilities, event driven operations, franchise, or multi unit service businesses. Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent operational leadership experience strongly considered.

Physical Requirements

Able to be on your feet during peak operating hours, move and set up equipment as needed, and maintain an active presence throughout the facility.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $75,000 to $95,000, commensurate with experience and track record, plus a performance based bonus tied to revenue and operational KPIs. Realistic total compensation of $100,000+ for an operator who grows the business.
  • Paid time off
  • Professional and career development assistance
  • Significant long term growth opportunity within an expanding sports platform

Apply directly through this posting. Please include your CV along with a short note (a few sentences is fine) describing one program, partnership, or revenue stream you built or grew from the ground up, and the results. Feel free to include your salary expectations for the role.
