Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures involving equine patients
  • Perform animal restraint and handling to ensure safety for both horses and staff during treatments or diagnostics
  • Conduct laboratory tests such as blood draws (phlebotomy), sample processing, and other diagnostic procedures including radiology diagnostics and X-ray imaging
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids via IV insertion or vascular access techniques with precision and aseptic technique
  • Support critical & intensive care cases by monitoring vital signs, managing medical equipment operation, and providing emergency medicine as needed
  • Maintain detailed medical records, update patient charts, and document procedures accurately in compliance with veterinary terminology standards
  • Assist with animal husbandry tasks and general animal care to promote overall health and comfort

Requirements

  • Proven veterinary technician experience with a focus on equine medicine or large animals
  • Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, veterinary terminology, and anesthesiology principles
  • Skilled in laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, diagnostic radiology, and radiology diagnostics
  • Ability to operate medical equipment safely and effectively in emergency medicine situations
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique to prevent infection during invasive procedures
  • Excellent animal handling skills with an emphasis on safety for both animals and staff
