Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures involving equine patients
- Perform animal restraint and handling to ensure safety for both horses and staff during treatments or diagnostics
- Conduct laboratory tests such as blood draws (phlebotomy), sample processing, and other diagnostic procedures including radiology diagnostics and X-ray imaging
- Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids via IV insertion or vascular access techniques with precision and aseptic technique
- Support critical & intensive care cases by monitoring vital signs, managing medical equipment operation, and providing emergency medicine as needed
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient charts, and document procedures accurately in compliance with veterinary terminology standards
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks and general animal care to promote overall health and comfort
Requirements
- Proven veterinary technician experience with a focus on equine medicine or large animals
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, veterinary terminology, and anesthesiology principles
- Skilled in laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, diagnostic radiology, and radiology diagnostics
- Ability to operate medical equipment safely and effectively in emergency medicine situations
- Knowledge of aseptic technique to prevent infection during invasive procedures
- Excellent animal handling skills with an emphasis on safety for both animals and staff
