About the Role:
Do you love the diamond and the court, but love having fun even more? Want to spend your summer inspiring the next generation of campers without the pressure of a strict, rigid sports league?
We are seeking one high-energy, fun-first Dual Sports Specialist to run our Baseball and Basketball programs. You will spend your mornings on the diamond and your afternoons commanding the court. This isn’t a high-stress coaching job—it’s about using sports to deliver the best summer possible. Your mission is to teach the basics through awesome camp classics like Home Run Derbys, Knockout, 3-Point Competitions, scrimmages, and pick up games!
About Black Bear Lake Day Camp:
Our unique, elective program means you’ll be working with campers from Lower Camp (1st Grade) through the STEP Program (10th Grade) who chose to hang out with you. Say goodbye to forced participation—you get to work with motivated kids who rotate throughout the day and are genuinely excited to play, laugh, and compete because they pick their electives!
Your Role as the Dual Sports Specialist:
You are the Commissioner of Fun! You will manage both facilities, creating a hype environment where every camper feels safe, confident, and celebrated, regardless of their athletic ability.
- Bring the Hype: Keep things moving with camp-style competitions like Home Run Derbys, 3-Point Contests, and lightning games.
- Let Them Play: Balance quick, simple skill-building with what the kids love most—picking teams and playing games.
- Challenge by Choice: Ensure camp is about fun first. Encourage campers to try their best and push their limits, but always respect their comfort levels.
- Versatile Play: Easily pivot your energy to match a group of 1st graders playing tee-ball or 10th graders playing an intense pickup basketball game.
- Safety & Court/Field Management: Keep the equipment organized and make sure the court and diamond are safe, positive environments all day.
What We’re Looking For:
- Solid experience playing, coaching, or just loving baseball/softball and basketball.
- A "camp person" mindset—someone who is patient, loud, enthusiastic, and prioritizes inclusion over winning.
- The ability to keep kids engaged through creative games rather than boring, repetitive drills.
- A dedication to fairness, sportsmanship, and being an awesome role model for kids ages 6–15.
