Job Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s required with course work in physical education, athletics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
Certification or Licensure: Certification in teaching ,administration and supervision desired.
Skills: Knowledge of RCSS organization and administration, policies and procedures, goals and priorities, and state and federal regulations, particularly Title IX. Knowledge of research and best practices related to the administration of athletic programs. Ability to assess program needs, develop short- and long-range plans, coordinate program implementation with other departments and with public and private agencies; develop communication networks with school personnel, parents, and community leaders; plan and lead staff training workshops and school leadership training efforts related to the area. Knowledge of the RCSS budget process. Ability to work effectively with management, staff, school-based administrators, teachers, and supporting service staff, particularly those in other RCSS offices who are involved in supporting student activities. Ability to prepare reports and presentations for the principal, superintendent, Board of Education, and other groups as needed. Excellent planning, organizational, management, human relations, and oral and written communication skills.
Work Experience: Three to five years of outstanding experience in athletics or a similar field. Demonstrated leadership and broad experience working with diverse staff.
Primary Duty
This position is responsible for the direct implementation and interpretation of the policies and procedures of the Board of Education, the state governing body, local athletic conferences, and 7-12 school programs. Provide overall leadership, supervision, and coordination of all sports programs to provide students with worthwhile learning experiences.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides supervision of District athletic programs and staff
- Solicits applications and conduct interviews for coaching vacancies
- Coordinates and develops practice schedules and facility coordination (building permits) for all athletic-related activities and other practice sites
- Establishes facility usage in conjunction with community recreation and outside user groups.
- Assists coaches in scheduling opponents and making travel arrangements.
- Coordinates and submits all requests for athletic transportation to the appropriate department
- Arrange for payment of entry fees.
- Issues contracts (contest, official, transportation)
- Obtains checks for officials
- Attends, supervises, and administers most home contests
- Obtains and distributes all staff and conference courtesy passes
- Provides rosters and programs for games
- Coordinates medical coverage at contests
- Assists with the conduct of large meets (city, conference, invitational)
- Acts as liaison to the conference and state association competitions.
- Manages local, regional, sectional, and association competition in conjunction with in-season coaches.
- Publishes periodic list of academic and residential junior varsity/varsity ineligibilities and initiates procedures necessary to achieve eligibility.
- Monitors daily attendance of athletics
- Obtains pertinent informational manuals for head coaches
- Publishes and provides coaches handbook for each coach
- Implements changes in athletic code and coach’s handbook
- Initiates correspondence (discipline, association, conference, etc.)
- Establishes time and date for athletic board meetings, enforce the athletic code, and issue formal suspensions when necessary
- Coordinates awards programs and pep assembles
- Develop and submit the department budget.
- Develop and submit purchasing and requisitioning orders for the department.
- Approve and sign all supply, first aid, and purchase requisitions.
- Provides long-range planning for program expansion and finance
- Coordinates and provides advisory membership to the athletic booster club
- Attends conferences, associations, and other special meetings
- Works with conference and state executive secretary/director to coordinate events
- The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.
