Director, Compliance & Operations Jobs in Charlotte, NC at Fantrax
Title: Director, Compliance & Operations
Company: Fantrax
Location: Charlotte, NC
Fantrax is an established fantasy sports platform known as The Home of Fantasy Sports®.
We serve a passionate fantasy sports audience that cares deeply about competition, league customization, commissioner tools, player performance, draft strategy, standings, rivalries, and the full experience of managing a team from season to season.
Fantasy sports is not just a product category for us. It is a community of sports fans who follow every injury update, prospect call-up, depth chart change, waiver move, and scoring decision. Fantrax has built its reputation by serving serious fantasy players, commissioners, and highly engaged leagues.
As Fantrax continues to grow, we are investing in a stronger U.S. operating presence, deeper compliance infrastructure, and a new HQ in Charlotte, NC.
This role is an important part of that next stage. YOU MUST RESIDE IN CHARLOTTE NC.
The Opportunity
Fantrax is looking for a Director, Compliance & Operations to help lead our Charlotte office and support the continued development of our U.S. operating presence.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to help build, organize, and improve the operational foundation of a sports technology business with a highly engaged user base.
The role combines compliance operations, payments support, vendor coordination, audit readiness, office leadership, employee support, and practical day-to-day execution.
This is not a policy-only compliance role. It is also not a traditional general manager role. It is a practical operating role for someone who can lead locally, manage details, support external reviews, and help make the business more disciplined, responsive, and scalable.
The ideal candidate should have strong operating judgment, credibility with external partners, and a genuine appreciation for sports, fans, competition, and the trust users place in a fantasy sports platform.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a senior on-site leader for Fantrax’s Charlotte office and U.S. office-of-record presence.
- Help lead and support local office employees in a positive, practical, and professional way.
- Help establish the Charlotte office as a credible, well-run operating location for Fantrax.
- Bring operational discipline to a business built around sports fans, fantasy players, commissioners, and competitive league play.
- Coordinate with leading third-party providers in AML, KYC, identity verification, geolocation, fraud prevention, and compliance technology.
- Support bank, acquirer, card-network, audit, and third-party due diligence requests.
- Help ensure KYC, AML/OFAC, geolocation, fraud, and merchant-risk controls are working effectively in practice.
- Maintain the documentation, evidence, policies, logs, and records needed for audits and external reviews.
- Support payments and finance-related workflows, including reporting support, vendor invoices, reconciliation inputs, and operational controls.
- Identify operational gaps and implement practical fixes without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Provide training, guidance, and issue-escalation support to internal staff as needed.
- Help coordinate onsite interviews, vendor visits, business meetings, and office activity as the Charlotte presence develops.
- Work across compliance, operations, technology, payments, finance, and business leadership to solve problems directly.
- Help protect the trust and reliability that sports fans expect from a platform handling competition, identity, payments, and gameplay-related operations.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a practical operator with experience in compliance, payments, risk, fintech, gaming, banking, financial services, sports technology, regulated operations, or a similarly scrutinized environment.
The right person will be comfortable working in a lean environment where not everything is already built. They should be able to bring structure, improve processes, support people, and communicate credibly with vendors, auditors, processors, banks, and senior leadership.
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys being close to the work and wants visible impact. We need someone who can identify issues, own solutions, and help the company operate with more discipline without slowing the business down.
A passion for sports is important. The successful candidate does not need to be a fantasy sports expert on day one, but they should understand why sports fans care, why trust matters, and why the details of the user experience are important.
Ideal Background:
- 5–10+ years of experience in compliance operations, payments, risk, fintech, gaming, sports technology, banking, financial services, operations, or consulting.
- Experience supporting or leading people, coordinating small teams, or serving as a senior operating presence in an office or business unit.
- Experience working with banks, acquirers, payment processors, auditors, regulators, or compliance vendors.
- Strong understanding of operational controls, identity verification, AML/OFAC, geolocation, fraud prevention, or merchant-risk environments.
- Experience preparing for or supporting audits, due diligence reviews, regulatory inquiries, or payment partner reviews.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to solve problems and implement practical solutions, not just identify issues.
- Comfortable operating independently in a small-team, high-accountability environment.
- Genuine interest in sports, fantasy sports, gaming, competition, or fan engagement.
- Compliance credentials such as CAMS, ACFCS, CRCM, or similar certifications are helpful but not required.
- Willingness to obtain relevant certifications with company support.
Leadership Expectations
This person will help set the tone for the Charlotte office.
We are looking for someone who can support local employees in a positive and steady way, represent Fantrax professionally, and help create an office environment that is organized, respectful, productive, and connected to the passion of the sports audience we serve.
The role requires someone senior enough to speak with external partners and practical enough to handle the details. One day may involve a vendor issue, the next an audit request, the next a team or office matter.
The right person will be comfortable moving between those responsibilities while keeping the larger business objective in mind: helping Fantrax grow as a trusted fantasy sports platform for serious sports fans.
Success in This Role
Success will mean:
- The Charlotte office is credible, professional, and well run.
- Local employees feel supported and have clear direction.
- Bank, acquirer, and card-network expectations are supported.
- Compliance and operational records are organized and audit-ready.
- Vendors are coordinated effectively.
- Issues are identified early and resolved practically.
- Senior leadership has less day-to-day operational burden.
- Fantrax becomes more controlled, responsive.
- The office culture reflects the energy, accountability, and passion of a sports-driven business.
Why This Role Matters
Fantrax operates in a space where sports passion, user trust, identity controls, geolocation, compliance, payments, and operational credibility all matter.
Our users are not casual passersby. They are commissioners, league managers, dynasty players, prospect followers, draft obsessives, and sports fans who care deeply about the details.
This role sits at the center of making sure the business behind that experience is strong, credible, and ready for continued growth.
For the right person, this is a chance to help build the U.S. operating foundation of a known fantasy sports brand, support the Charlotte office presence, work directly with senior leadership, and shape a function that will be important to Fantrax’s next stage of growth.
